Belt Tensioner

btw, what's the original belt tensioner for the car? I wouldn't mind having a spare so when and if I replace the belt I can also replace the tensioner .. I'm thinking when one wears the other may also at about the same time?

Are they available NOS? Cost? Thanks for any info ...

nos4gn.com got them both NOS and repro (made by the original manufacturer); that's were I got mine (and a spare)

Re: Correct Lenght Drive Belt 6 rib 1605mm

Thanks Jan ... if you don't hear from me tomorrow remind me ...

That belt tensioner is a repro ... is it the Gates? I can buy the Gates for less than that. Let me know ... thanks

Will do.

It does not say anything on them however if the original manufacturer started making them for the aftermarket I suspect all of them are the same no matter the "box" its sold in ...

I did notice the aftermarket gone up in price, heck I paid like $79 for the two I have (one on the car after I rebuild the engine) but that was 5 years ago maybe.

I go and get the gates one and a spare as well ... I'm sure they only did a limited run of them like seems to be the case with the heater/radiator hoses as they are now gone and they are just selling out the left over inventory (so 2 of the 4 still avalible last time I checked).

Re: Correct Lenght Drive Belt 6 rib 1605mm

Jan - you are right. The Gates is not listed at Rock Auto anymore, and most places show it out of stock. The one on Highway Stars is 279 bucks.

Re: Correct Lenght Drive Belt 6 rib 1605mm

Phil you probably know already but can buy the pulley separately.

The gates #38001 is the pulley I put on last year when I put a new tensioner on. I did not like the pulley that came with the gates #38374.

I got the #38374 gates from O'Reilleys online for 98.99, last november. I would like to find another one for a spare, seems hard to find them.

Also the cross refrence number for a goodyear one is #49369, hard to find also.

If anyone has had any luck in finding these tensioners let us know. I don't want to pay 279 for a spare one.

Gates no 38374 is the same @ Napa 38374 for the complete tensioner assembly.

Some on-line sources list them under $100 I noticed while looking for some other stuff but not sure if they have any ...

DM Auto Parts

Might be worth asking your local Napa store to do a search accross the country ...

Jan, Still looking for a spare. Will try DM. Had one ordered from autopartsnerd.com a few months ago, they showed it in stock it never did arrive. I had it paid for, and I called them and they said it wasn't in stock so they refunded my money.
So the search continues, will also try NAPA.

Mike - I just checked that part number on Napa and it lists for 81.39. They show it as available too.

Yes, I checked NAPA also, shows available online at warehouse. I called them and they said I would have to special order it, but they could get it. So this weekend I will try to order one from them.
Not a bad price for less than $100.:worthy:

Mike - did you ever get a call from your Napa dealer? I still haven't gotten a call about this part. Might be too good to be true.

Yes, I got a call. I have to special order it before 5 pm. I tried to do it friday but I was too late. The manager has to special order it from the manufacture. I am not going to get my hopes up on this one.:beach:

Anything around that price is a bargain considering some websites are selling them for 279 bucks. Let me know what happens.

Mike - you are not gonna believe this, but just for the heck of it I went on Rock Auto to see if they had one available. They showed one ACdelco tensioner available and I snagged it. Let's see if I actually get it. The best part was the price. With a discount code it was only 76.67 with shipping. It has to be too good to be true.

Like I said - too good to be true. I got a call that it is not available. Mike - if your leads works out, let me know.
