blowing oil out the dip-stick!!!

Hello,

I recently removed the oil / emissions tube that connects to the back side of the turbo bell to the driver side valve cover (replaced it with a cheap air breather). When driving it the other night I noticed a strong oil burning smell. Saturday morning I looked under the engine, and oil was everywhere!

I figured the rear main seal went, but then I noticed oil on the back firewall. It looks like it?s burping out the dipstick, is this possible?

Also, I don?t drive this car much, and I will go out and get a new PVC. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be that the oil is actually blowing out of that new breather you installed. This can happen and just depends on your driving style and how much boost you're running. I ran my breather on an extension and would still have the same problem so I "fabricated" a catch can around the breather. It wouldn't be a lot of oil but it when it starts dripping down onto the headers it makes for a good smoke show.
 
the new breather is clean, no oil. Doesn't Johns Performance sell the correct replacement filter once you remove the emissions tube?

i also notice oil all over the driverside spark plug wire, i"m positive it's coming out the dipstick. 20PSi on the boost.

I bought the filter from John's that replaces the oil fill cap and my car totally stopped spraying oil out of various places. Once I locate another valve cover, I'm putting one on the passenger side as well.
 
Hey guys,
I am having the same issue. My car already has a breather installed on the driver-side valve cover (replace the PCV valve?), but it's definitely blowing oil out the dipstick under boost.

I've not made any mods to the boost (yet:whistle:) but will probably next year when I hook up the turbotweak chip.

Any ideas on why I've got this leak? Do I need a breather replacement for the oil cap?

Any ideas are much appreciated...

There is a specific PCV valve for our cars that positivy seals under boost. If If the seal has gotten hard or you have a standard type it will let boost pressure into the crank case. ATR used to sell a check valve to replace the PCV. I don't remember the part number for the corect PCV,

This will help out, get yourself another driverside valve cover. Then go over to I think www.speedinc.com and buy 1/4 turn LS1 breathers( part #IZM0003). They twist right in to our valve covers. Now you have 2 breathers. Next, using that rubber elbow on both valve covers go buy yourself some Advance auto ricer breathers that have like a 3/4" nipple and affix them in the rubber elbow with hose clamps and now you have 4 breathers.

Thanks Rich. So you're saying it's just a matter of adding more breathers... Any ideas why that would change? I know I'm new to this, but I'm thinking if it never did this before, something must have changed.

Yes Lance, this was suggested to me early on by ratfink(the artist formally known as sverble) as I had eliminated the emissions pipe from the valve cover to the inlet bell. I'm certainly no expert, but it made sense that boost will end up past the PCV and short of the those fancy vacuum pump evacuators, 4 breathers surely vent better than one. And on mine they do. I don't have any oil anywhere ( I just jinxed myself, didn't I).

I don't have much faith in any PCV valve to block boost totally. I have one of those old ATR PCVs. I can't blow through it but I hooked up my mity vac and it leaked past at about 11PSI. Not much, but it leaked past. The Autozone PCV won't hold 3 PSI.
 
I have 1 breather in the hole above the Oil fill cap. I have never had oil anywhere. Have you tried the correct AC DELCO valve?

Thanks. I have a breather behind the oil cap as well. It seems to be flowing well. Will check the PCV valve again to make sure...
