TurboJoe89TTA

TurboJoe
From the first night I took the TTA home and knew I had a special ride that needed a great home. But I had a slight problem. Something was clunking near the engine. After sweating it for a couple hours, I found the flywheel to be loose. Whooosh! After, we tightened it she ran hard and good.
Couple months past and I got the bug. I wanted the converter off because I heard they really plug these Cars up. Well, I won't go there, you all know I ended up getting a Hooker exhaust on the TTA. I had regrets at first but now I love it.
The TTA came with the ATR Pitbull Chip. Wow 26 degree timing! Very aggressive and I could not manage run over 12.5 psi without knock. So I decided to the change to chip the the Thrasher 93. The gentlemen who I bought the TTA gave me it to me. Well, after figuring out the Anti Theft problem I was still knocking hard. After adjusting the TPS and the AIC, I finally had it running decent. I'll tell ya, I was knocking 24 degrees at one point with the Pitt Bull and 11 degrees with the Thrasher at WOT testing at 18 psi. Then added was a Adj. fuel regulator with a Volt booster and it took out a little bit of knock out. Well after FINALLY listening to you all I ordered the Eric's chip and can know run about 14.5 psi with no knock on 93 pump gas.
Then I ordered the Racetronix fuel kit w/hotwire. Installation went perfect. We took our time and I could not be happier with the mod. Now, I can run about 16 psi without knock.
Shorty after, I changed all the fluids except the rear end. I also had my TV cable for the tranny was properly adjusted. Now everything is PERFECT.
Now, I take the TTA out weekly and have put 415 miles on it this spring through summer. I really enjoy hearing the turbo spool and the performance of the TTA. Not to mention, she is really a eye popper!
The reason I am writing about my experience is because I want all the new owners to learn from my mistakes. Listen to this board and find a good tech you can NOT go wrong.

Cool, sounds like you've learned alot. Here's one for ya, last weekend I went out testing the new CPT61 turbo. I had it at 18-19psi alchy turned off on 93 pump gas at about 82 degrees out in the sun with 0-0.5 degrees of retard. It was ripping. So I took it out for one more run. I set it up to around 22-23psi. Smoke the DR and then stalled it up to about 4 psi on the line and let it rip. It shot up to 20 psi, the nose in the air and then all of a sudden... booooooomm. I shit! I thought I'd finally done it.. Well, it was only the up pipe. It wasn't on good. I put it back on and it was all good. Make sure all your clamps are tight. What a newbie mistake. I've had this ride for 18 years, you'd think I'd check everything over.

Cool!
Now, if someone would come down and visit me, as well as fix the leaking rear main for me, I'd be happy!
I wonder if there is someone in the Las vegas area who could do that (fix the leaking rear main seal)? It's only 100 miles away.
Why won't I do it?
Too lazy and too old! :)

I've had the hose from the turbo to the intercooler blow off many times on me. But one of the worst things to ever happen was I was messing with the boost a little and getting everything dialed in on 23 psi and I took it out on one of the backroads and rolled into it to see how it was doing. Everything was running great so I slowed back down and then I nailed it, it's running great and then I notice the performance drop if quickly. I let out and the car starts idling/running like crap, I go to hit the brakes for the stop sign that was quickly approaching and sure enough there were no brakes. Well the vacuum line that runs to the brake boosted popped off and I had to pump the pedal and pull the ebrake and I just barely got stopped in time. I pulled over to the side of the road and put the hose back on. Then stupid me I turned the corner and to see if it was going to stay on I did it again but there wasn't anything I needed to stop for for a while so I was clear that time. Now I have a hose clamp on it, so if you're running over like 20 psi I would suggest putting a hose clamp on there so you don't find out you don't have brakes at like 90mph

Ditto that, I've had the same thing happen and you will get a good scare if your in traffic with no brakes. I too have clamped them down. That would suck go down a drag strip only to get to the end with no brakes at about 110 mph.:jaw:

First off, I def. need to invest in better clamps bacause i can't keep muy up-pipe on. Second, try taking your 70 y/o grand pap for a ride, launching it on a downtown street and then at 80 hit the brakes and nothing. To say the least I have a clamp on my brake booster hose now also!! haha. Third my rear main is leaking terrible and needs to be fixed this month. SEEM THAT WE ALL SHARE THE SAME PROBLEMS!! hah now I don't feel so bad.
