These 2 spare chips came with my TTA when I bought it. I should have wrote things down the PO told me, but I didnt. I remember him saying something about a "race gas" chip. Does anybody know what these might be?

I am guessing the first one that says R107A is a Red Armstrong chip, that is what I have in the car now.

I also put up a picture of the envelope they were in, some of the marker has worn off.

I should have been more specific. Sorry. I'm not running the one in the picture, there is another chip in the car, supposedly Red Armstrong. Never looked. I dont want to use these, just wanted to know if anyone could tell what they are or mean.

That's what i mean, you need to know exactly what is in the car, Red or otherwise...

Yes, you are making sense. I will check it out before I drive again (gonna be a while-lol)

I know that technology is old, and Turbo Tweak is the bomb. I never have had any problems and thought to leave well enough alone. The chip AFAIK that is in the car, isnt that old (about 4 yrs). The PO tuned it up and such shortly before I purchased it.

What would be some signs of it being a bad thing?

My guess the first one is red's race chip 107 octane the other one not shore

The problem is you don't know if the chip was burned for something that is no longer on the car that the po took off not knowing it would affect the chip, better safe than sorry, and there is no sign, just a big boom.... i try not to assume anything except the worse...:teehee:
 
If it was my TTA I would get rid of the current chip and put a turbotweak chip in there. It would be a good upgrade!
 
My guess is that one with the red sticker is for 107 octane gas, that was the usual thing chip burners did to indicate what octane gas the chip was meant for because they would make several for different grades of gas.
The one in the 2nd pic is no good as the UV window is not even covered, any type of light getting to it over time would make the program stored on it corrupt, probably not erased as it takes a lot of UV light to erase them, like days in direct sunlight, or 10 minutes under a UV lamp, but enough to turn some 1's into 0's.
 
I have used all most every chip maker attempts for stock, 36, 42, 50, 55, 75 injectors. Turbo tweak are good but because he is the primary burner people think he is the king. In my car now I have a Reds chip that I prefer over my latest turbo tweak.
Eric is good at the new high impedance injectors and a good vendor, but just like the old school turbos new is not necessarily always better.
Be careful with that 107 octane chip, years ago that meant at least leaded 110 with the high timing they had.
 
Odds are what is in there is fine but i would put eyes on it to be sure, when you take it out again get it up to temp and write down the SM numbers, you can also get it up to speed in 3rd gear and go WOT for at least 3 sec. and hit the recall button before you turn it off to see if there is any knock retard, but this is not a sign but rather after the fact but at least you will know if something is wrong...

Thanks for all the input guys.

Robert, I will do this procedure next year when I take the car out again.
I may try to call the PO and get some info. I know he has a mechanic that is good with these engines, they race Buicks at National Trail. Maybe the mechanic will remember the specs. The SM readings have always been consistent, never any knock readings.

As for the extra chips, I will just put them in the box with my other TTA stuff. No plans to ever use them.
 
first pic is a reds 107 (race fuel) chip , no idea what injectors its burned for , will have high timing high injector duty for boost around 22-23psi , could be used for alky but would be way rich, but without knowing what injectors its burned for its best it never gets used in a car

second is missing the sticker to cover the burn window so i assume its probably a custom ,,better assumption isits JUNK


wouldnt use either and any one who would purchase them is just throwing money away

get a turbotweak chip built for your current combination and be done

Well I have no intention of trying to sell the chips to anybody.


I am in the process of claying, waxing and "super" detailing my car. I opened the center console to get an extra lug nut cap, because I have a cracked one, and found those chips in there. I remember when I bought the car, the PO saying something about "there are extra chips in the car, but they are for race gas."

I cant say my TTA was never raced, but I dont think it did more than a few runs down the track. The guy I bought it from races Buicks, he owns The Toy Barn in Columbus and has a very extensive budget. His mechanic is "Turbo Bob", don't know if you guys have ever heard of him.

I've had the car for over 4 yrs and have never messed with the current combo, it runs good, idles good, seems to be dialed in good. As far as the engine is concerned, I have only changed the oil and did fluid checks. The SM has never shown any knock when I'm driving it. But I probably dont drive as aggresively as you guys.

If it were "TurboBob" Bailey, I'm not sure why he would have had those off the wall chips around?? Surprised it doesn't have a Gen Pro, Coil on Plug ignition and several other Bob inventions :)
 
the bag looks from precision... that would be dick head joe lubrant! .. who told me 10yrs ago if I didn't know anything abt buicks I should sell mine ... GREAT GUY ! plz use turbo tweak aka Eric was a newbie and joe just went off on me for no reason. but I did make the lil stock enginge buick go 10.s .. with a turbo tweak chip ... just like john with the tta parts shit me out of a thdp and floor matts


im all about helping the community newbies
