Yeah I made it, still not entirely sure what was wrong. started acting up a few more times after I relieved all the pressure in the gas tank, my filler neck is bent, and the gas cap is junk. I thought it may have been to tight. Anyways, after screwing around the only other thing I could think of was this is the first time i used the A/C, so I shut it off, VOILA, 4 hrs later and no problems. need to reset the fuel pressure if someone has a FP gauge tomorrow, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ok, so on the way home it was shutting off again. Luckily I bought a fuel pressure gauge while I was out in Ohio and made sure the pressure was set. The first time it shut of, it would not restart. All the gauges were reading normal until it shut off. It acted like I was running out of gas, the wideband and scanmaster started reading lean. I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge, turned the key on, and no pressure. I couldn't here the pump kick on, but I was right beside the highway and traffic was heavy, so it was hard to here anything anyways. I cycle the key off and on a few times while also purging the fuel rail using the drain valve on the FP gauge. Finally got gas through the drain valve along with a lot of air. After all the air was purged out, fuel pressure shot back up to normal, and I could drive for a few miles till it lost pressure again. Also noticed once while it was running with the gauge still attached to the fuel rail I started to lose pressure and it was going to shut off, I hit the purge valve on the gauge, got a little air out then just gas and it started running fine again. Then we stopped for about 30-45 minutes got gas, let everything cool down, and I drove the rest of the way home, about 140miles with no problems. Any insight to what could cause this is greatly appreciated.

I remember you saying you had a Walbro fuel pump. I think there was a bad batch of them. It could be possible the pump is bad. One of the vendors is supposedly selling a German made(I think) pump that is supposed to be better made. It might be worth checking out. Let me see if I can find the link.

That's what I figured. Just didn't make sense how it would start to die, then start running again after bleeding the system. I put a walbro pump in last year about 4,000 miles ago. Nothing wrong with the stock pump, I was just trying to avoid any problems like this. Anyone know if there is any kind of warranty on the walbro? Got it from full throttle. Also, have they straightened out the "bad batch" of these pumps. Or is there a better one to go with.
Walbro has a 1 year warranty and the pumps are fine now.
Here is what I think is happening. The pump gets hot. Then it works/doesn't work, works/doesn't, ect. until it dies. When it is intermittently working you are filling the lines with air. By the time the car dies and you get out, it has cooled off enough to work again. You bleed it and it works.
I bet if you kept the tank 100% full (impossible) and your evac system works properly you would never have an issue.
Replace the pump and call it good.

Nick - this is the pump I was talking about. It is listed on a GN website. I am not sure if it fits our application. I tried searching on Turbobuicks.com, but they changed the website and the search feature is working like crap. I remember reading that it was supposed to be a better, more reliable pump then the Walbro.

my GN kept dying like it was out of gas an it was the MAF sensor ????? Had the same fuel pump walbro340 for over 5 yrs now.. changed maf ran fine .... driving down the road it would stumble an then like die out had to barley mash the pedal to keep it runing the more u mashed the pedal the worse it ran
MAF is pretty easy to check. If it's running rough try softly tapping the MAF with the handle of a screwdriver to see if it changes. Sadly, this caveman troubleshooting technique works on many components. Had the blower motor go out in my DD recently. Used the same technique to make sure that's what it was.

I just had similar issues with #689. Starts okay, runs for a few mins then shuts off. Sometimes it would shut off while driving. Not good in town during a turn. FP checked out okay. Occasionally low idle. No vacuum leaks. No codes. Turned out to be the ECM. Moved to a new ECM from Rock Auto and dropped a TT chip in. I'm all clear now.
