Car Shutting Down After Driving

Hey guys, here's my problem.
When driving car for a while, it will shut itself down. Pop hood and a lot of heat can be felt. After an hour or so it can be driven again for awhile. Both fans come on when AC is on high, so the fan motor should be fine. Although I had car to mechanic for other issue, he said there was an exhaust leak somewhere around left side of engine after listening to the car idle. Could that be a cause to overheat. Duct under car is on great shape. Car gets up to about 220 degrees when stalling occurs. Any suggestions wil be much appreciated as always.
Thanks

Is that stop and go driving or highway ? When you say left side leak that should be drivers side and no it won't cause it to overheat, is the low speed fan coming on? Is the maf, chip, thermostat, cat, all original ? Miles?

The car has 59000 miles, there's no cat, 160 tstat, 2002 Maf with translator, Turbo tweak chip. I only drive to my friends house about 30 miles away every couple of weeks or so. Part highway and part stop and go. It's never dies on highway just on the local roads. When should the low speed fan come on. How do I check, sorry not to knowledgeable about mechanics.

Do you have a scanmaster ? either way the TT chip will turn the fans on at 160-165.. just let it idle and listen for them.. could also be ing related or a combination of little things working together.

Yes I have a scanmaster, I'll let it idle and check it out. Thanks Mr. Lee
You've helped me out so many times.

Started car this morning and it was idling high so shut car off, went to restart and it won't turn over. Don't know what to do now.

First make sure there is no water on the dipstick, then look for a orange wire running by the left side of the battery which is a fusable link, make sure its not blown.. other than that trace the neg and pos leads from one end to the other, you can bend them some and tell if they got hot, if all that checks out its most likely the ing switch.

I will check that out. For a couple of years now I would have to turn key a couple of times on occasion to start it.

You would think it should be a fuel or spark problem, but when it died was running fine when I got it pulled over and tried to restart nothing happen when I turned the key. All lights work and dash indicator came on but starter didn't turn was like the ignition switch was no even there. After sitting over night I tried to start and it crank for a few times then did the same thing again. Previous owner put one of the electric fuel pump regulator end which makes it a pain the ass to start until fuel pressure build up but it never cause the symptoms that happen this weekend. Any ideas searching the different forum TTA and GN seems this shut off and not restarting is a problem that has been plaguing owners for year but no one has posted a fix for it.

Most of these cars suffer from SSS - stupid shit syndrome.

Try some basic diagnostic tests, start by checking the resistance of the coil packs with a multi meter, they should all be the same resistance around 12k.

Test your fuel pump flow into a measured container using the schrader valve to see if it within spec. You could also connect a fuel pressure gauge to see how it acts when it gets warm. The needle should be rock steady with no fluctuations, unless your low on fuel or there is a problem.

Try these tests with the car cold and then again fully warmed up to see if there are any discrepancies.
