Changed MAF Sensor Today

As long as I have had this car it has had a rebuilt GM maf sensor on it. I have been looking for another one for sometime.
I got a nos one a while back and didn't want to use it. So I found a good used one off a low mile GN. Installed it today and it works perfect. I have better idle and boost builds quicker and runs smoother.:cheers:

As an electrical engineer, I'm surprised these can't be re manufactured properly.

Thanks, I was lucky to find this one. The guy said it was off his one owner car. I suppose he took it off years ago.
 
Good one ... spare is a must to keep these cars running ... I got one dead one and a nice used OEM ... then I changed to the translator and LT1 MAF :-)

you said it right to begin with "MAD SENSOR" thats what you will be when you have to buy a translator and LTI sensor, these things were flakey when they were new and they don't get better with time :crazy: i'm thinking about a S-D chip and be done with it if my translator ever goes bad

Speed density is great as long as your lookup tables are correct, which ideally requires a lot of one on one time with a dyno. It doesn't compensate for mechanical changes to the system either, it requires reprogramming.

The MAF system allows engine modifications (fuel injector size aside) without significant need for ECU reprogramming.
 
Hey Rob I just for a TT SD chip for 366 and now when I take the MAF off I'll have a spare for 733 should it ever need another maf sensor. I will let you know how it is. You need a power logger for it to work though. Joe just loves his. I still need to do some wiring to install it. Just got the stuff from caspers today.

I am decently againt running SD in these cars, but thats just my opinion.

Thank goodness we have Bob Bailey making the translator for us. My car still has the stock MAF, (knock on some big ass wood!) but when it does fail an LT1 will go on.

The MAF can be made again to good quality, it is simply the fact no one wants to spend the money to do it. Why would you, as a manufacturer, make something you MIGHT sell 1000 of? And that is a huge maybe...

O well, like I said, atleast we have Bob Bailey.
 
The rebuilt Maf Sensor that was on my car, you could lightly peck on it and it would change the sound of the engine. I think it was probably going out.

The one I just installed, you can peck on it and the engine does not change. And it sure does run better.:yes:
 
Jason knows more way more about these cars than me. But if I had to do it all over again I would still choose Eric's SD. Throttle response and spool up is very improved as well as idle. Our computers can make corrections 160 times per second if you want it to.

Some say GM never made a good maf sensor for boost. The other side says our computer is not fast enough for SD.

Eric did improve Steve Y. ME-R program over the years ... just off the top of my head... slight changes to when alky sprays is one of the many improvements... Newest version saves your settings.

Jarred i have a PL , never hooked it up yet, i don't forsee any problems with current set-up, seems to be a well thought out product. keep us updated on the SD chip, be interesting to know how (and how well ) it works, good luck

I also see where you can use Bob Bailey's pro translator to set-up and tune Eric's SD chip , is this what you got from Casper's or something else ?
 
I do not have a translator. I have a maf set up and was updating my power logger last night for the SD chip and everything was updated. I believe WS6 did this for me at the reunion, thanks Rich!!!!

So I have to install my air temp sensor into the up pipe and wire in the MAP to the PL. I ordered wire extension from caspers and a CCCI hot wire kit.

If all goes well it will be easy I know Eric gets these pretty darn close to perfect out of the box. Lets hope so.
