Chevy Volt

They were having issues with the battery exploding so let's hope they work that out before it's released!! :explosion:
 
Does anyone else just "cringe" when they see a Prius or is it just me.

I sometimes want to just get behind one with the truck and push it through the intersection, or if I see one in the parking lot I want to peel off the "hope and change" bumper sticker.

Honesty, I wish GM would promote the Volt more. Everyone in this country is all about alternative fuels and GM needs to work on kicking Toyota while they're down. They need to exploit their recalls as faults in their "quality" and promote their gas mileage and alternative fuel strides they've made. That's the only way they're going to make it. I read somewhere it takes 8 years to change the general public's perception of a brand. While GM is coming back off bankruptcy I think they can come back strong but they're going to have to strike hard like Honda and Toyota did in the 80s.

I not only cringe but usually bitch at how they drive too. That is except the one guy who passed me in a Prius when I was going 95..I didn't know they could go that fast. I bet he was getting horrible mileage too.

And if your going to put a bumper sticker on the car ATLEAST PUT IT ON FREAKIN STRAIGHt!!!
 
It seems every time I see a Prius it's passing me at 15-20mph over the limit! So much for fuel economy! I can't wait 'til those owners have to replace all the batteries and get the bill for $5k+!

A customer gave me an interesting article once. A Hummer is actually more recycleable than a Prius. So if you want to save the environment, buy a Hummer!

I was watching a Top gear episode the other night, the one where they test the fuel economy of some super cars. Anyway, there was a segment where they had to do 10 laps with a Prius as fast as they could and Jeremy Clarkson would follow in an M3. He was not allowed to pass the Prius, just keep pace. Well the Prius after 10 laps averaged 17mpg and the M3 averaged 19.2 mpg. This proves to some extent that its not always the car, but how you drive it. These people that drive there econo boxes like F1 cars are not saving anything. I can attest to this, when I owned my '05 Civic and drove it like I was playing GT4, I would go through that little 12 gallons like water, way off the rated 30 mpg.

I'll second that. I had a friend with one of those little Scion xB boxy things. It was so lacking on HP you had to floor it 90% of the time. Traded it in for an '06 GTO. With that much power you can tool around at 30% throttle. His MPG between the two vehicles wasn't that different.

I will pass on GM. I know the Volt will be made in the US. I will buy a Tundra since I only put about 6k a year on my cars and they are made in the USA. Resale and reliability for sure.

Second, I do like the fact that the government is trying to tell us what cars to buy. Even if they are right... their wrong to do so.

Government wants to control something.. control oil! Maybe then you will sell some cars. Just my thoughts.

Joe, where does the money you spend on Toyotas go? Please tell me!

I drove 800 miles last Tuesday and guess
how many Chevys I saw on the side of the road? Guess how many Toyota and
Nissan trucks I saw? Take a guess :)

Also, how many miles have you towed in your life?

Lemme stay on my soapbox...

My moms truck has 115k miles. We change the oil every 3k and just did the sparkplugs, wires, and trans fluid at 103k.

My truck has 78k. Oil and filter changed every 5k with synthetic oil. Trans fluid changed once. Nothing else. O and it tows. Not to mention it gets 21.5 mpg on te highway (and some ppl know I don't drive slow) and it gets 16.5 in town.

Joe, please buy me a Toyota and I'll do a comparison.

Also, I'd have to agree with JP. Not into a government telling me what too or what not too drive. Don't know that many people interested in electric econo boxes anyway. Just look at the Cash for clunkers debacle. The most traded vehicle was a Ford explorer and the most purchased were GAS powerd Toyota Corolla, Camry, and Ford Focus. Better on gas yes, but not alternative by any means. The only ones in love with battery powerd toy cars are the media and Al Gore and I did'nt see one Hybrid on any of the News reports at Copenhagen! As a matter of fact the news repoterd that the Carbon footprint that these climate talks are leaving is that of a small country
 
Rat...love the pic, 185hp woohoo! Is that supposed to make people forget how ugly it is???

Cash 4 Clunkers in the US had too many specifications, IMO. In other countries if the car is more than 10 yrs old it qualifies. As it stands, my old car still gets better MPG than the new cars I was interested in. Oh well, I wanted to flip 200k on it anyway, just to say I did.

haha Last I checked the Chevy trucks where assembled in Canada and Mexico. The ones that are made in Canada stay there. :chat:

Tundra's are made in the USA. US workers will benefit.

The ones in assembled in Canada and Mexico are also shipped throughout the world. Buick is the largest seller in China yet the money comes back here.

I agree that the minimum wage workers in the U.S. will benefit from building a Toyota/Nissan truck. :thumbdwn:

Now answer the other questions...

Buicks:wtf:... GM lost their minds. Prolly 40k after tags and taxes for a really desirable one. Yeah... 40k. Then, they try to pull you in with 0% for 72 months. What a brilliant marketing scheme! GM, snap out of it!

As do I. In fact both of our trucks (Yukon and Silverado both 1500's) were made in Flint, Michigan. I think that is located in the United States...:idea5::boxing:

As to the marketing schemes...you got me. I'll never spend that much for a car. I'll let some poor sap take the depreciation. The truck was purchased with 23k miles in 2005 for $15k. All it takes is patience to find the right vehicle.

The way Obama is making the Diesels change I might be in the gasser forever. No way in hell I am running a diesel where you will inject a byproduct of human waste just to keep the democrats's happy. :bash:
