Clunk When Shifting Into Gear

TTA855

I have a loud clunk when shifting into gear from park or neutral. Does anyone know what causes that? A friend of mine thinks it's the U-joint between the driveshaft and differential, because there is some play there. Thanks!

Turns out it was a worn posi. I had bought a used one from Hawks online, and it didn't last long. So I had a local differential shop put the original posi back in and the clunk is better but not like new since that posi has had a lot of hard use. Since the factory rear end is a unique piece built in Australia, with only a 7.75" ring, and is hard to find parts for now, the differential guy recommends I replace it with a 12 bolt. What do you guys think? Thanks and Happy Easter!

Too bad you aren't closer (I'm in PA). I replaced my 39k original rear end with a 9" rear. The old one Iis just sitting here.
