Does anyone else suffer from inaccurate gauges? My temp gauge is off probably 20-40 degrees. It's fine up until about 140 then it doesn't match up to the scanmaster.Scan numbers climb but gauge doesn't.
I think there are two temp senders one for the ecm and one for the gage in addition to the fan temp switch. If you have the factory service manuals on page 8A-201-0 in the suppliment you can see where the fan temp switch is, the coolant temp sensor (CTS) which goes to the ecm and the temp sender connector which is above the sender for the gage. Look at page 8A-81-2 of the Firebird manual to see the wiring for the temp sender. The gage temp sender has a one wire connector. The ECM temp sensor has a two wire connector. The fan temp switch also has a one wire connector, so make sure you locate the gage temp sender. My guess is the gage sender is bad. If you don't have the manuals yet I can scan the two pages and email them to you.
