Combo Or tuning??

OK guys I am bringing my tta 365 to the reunion and this car needs to be tuned and/or combonationed better than I have done.

So far my car is running slower than last year by a half second,.... I am starting to think it is my combo maybe rather than my tuning since tuning is pretty automatic with the TT6.0 and wideband. I have added some wieght but not enough to slow the car this much??

Last year I was 11.2 @118mph and now this year I am at 11.7 @119mph. This is with 20# boost.

Here is my combo....

stock stroker block with built bottom end
billet roller 218/212 cam
champ ported iron 7515 heads
champ intake
70mm TB/plenum
rjc power plate
80# inj
pro series external pump
stock maf
razor alky inj dual nozzle new pump this year
spohn torque arm/X-member/susp parts
3500 vigilante lock up
stage 3 lonnie Diers 2004r
detent plate (ws6) awesome!
precision 74mm journal turbo
3inch DP
MT 295/55/15
wideband and power logger

I also get a TON!! of false knock with this new set up. Yes Yes I have been going through the list to solve it. I know it is false as I have ran c16 race gas and same thing. ON the track does not seem so bad at all unless bad tire spin.

I was really hoping to get into the tens with this new set up. hopefully with all the experts at the reunion I can figure this out??

I was also thinking (and everyone told me before) that my turbo is too big. I can spool that baby up to what ever I want on the line before I launch with my trans brake and detent plate so does it really matter. On the street it has a bit of lag compared to the 61mm I had before, but is it really too big even for track purposes??

Thanks for reading and please comment.

Jarred.

Does the false knock pull timing? That would slow you down...dunno.
Faster than mine, so just my .02:arab:

74mm turbo is wayyyyy out of it's efficiency range at 20 psi.

Start there and start with the false knock..

Also, more logs is a must!

Well you did pick up a mph since the last time so you actually went faster. E.T. Is more of a launch and 60' thing. What did it pick up mph from the 1/8 to the 1/4? Should be about 25 mph at that speed. Also 20 psi is well under what that combo should be at. As mentioned above, the false knock is probably pulling timing which will also kill performance.

I am thinking the same thing that wheel spin is involved since you are slower time wise but higher MPH. What are your 60 foot times on each pass?

He probably can't get a better 60' unless he changes his stall. That turbo is a monster. You are leaving 150 RWHP on the table with the 5 psi less boost.

What is your IDC at? Those 80's really need to be above 50 (at a minimum) to be smooth. More boost will cure that too :)

I think I read into this to quick and didn't realize this was the car you swapped the new long block in to. HMMMM...... That is a pretty big turbo to spool up and not sure what it should have to make it all work properly, but I am sure in less then 2 weeks we can all help you with it.

IDC is at 59-60%
spool up is no problem I can launch with 25# boost if I wanted to but I have not as I fear that will spin the tires or break something. I launch as close as posible to 10# boost.

That false knock on tire spin is a killer too, that is another reason I don't launch with too much boost. I think my track here is poorly prepped. with my big MT I should not really have too much spinning. ???

Perhaps a smaller turbo is needed. will there be vendors selling turbos at the reunion or just taking orders??

False knock can be brought on by the exhaust hitting the frame if I remember correctly. Make sure the DP isn't rattling around. PS, don't forget to throw my license plate in your car. lol

Hartline will be!

Something else is going on...if you can launch at 10PSI that car should be TEARING out.

Does the trans feel solid? What is your wideband registering? Timing?

Are you using an internal gate with the 74? Don't see an external gate on your list.
74mm is too big for a 3"DP I would think too. Next, I might look at the stock maf with your combination.

You have nice items! Car will RIP as soon as it's dialed in.

I have the wideband at 10.8 and that is where it stays. Trans feels good. I have a precision external waste. I can launch at 10# boost or higher if the track is well prepped but mine never is. I have a three inch DP and a dump. When I open the dump the boost goes up so I don't open it very often.

I have been thinking about this...

80's flowing at 60% IDC is enough fuel for 130MPH in the 1/4. So, the question is, where is the air going...?

Well thats a good question!!
No vac leaks as far as I can tell, engine pulls good vac on the gauge, 17 at idle and 22 when decellerating. No water pushing out the rad into the over flow and no changes to water level. Blow by out the breathers, but that has always been and seems within normal limits.

I'll have to keep thinking about this. The car is measuring boost (albeit LOW!)....

I wouldn't be discouraged though. At all.
