Not taken as a jab :-) And I really look forward to get some of this info out in the open for us all to access ... and this would be both the PAS numbering (and why they did number the cars the way they did on their documents for each VIN) and the VIN sequence order number used by PHS (and all of us at the moment). But remember these cars weren't numbered like the GNX and were not intended to be numbered.
 
How many and what were the various designs of the emblems, door decals and windshield decals?
 
Why didn't the turbo have the heat shield on it like the GN? (pic below)

Why didn't they use the ceramic GNX turbo?

Is the intercooler "all that" different from the GN?

From everything I've heard over the years the difference is in the number of fins per inch. The GN had 10 fins/in. The GNX & TTA, 12 fins/in. I once heard that increasing beyond the 12 fins/in the efficiency would drop.
 
Remember guys this thread is questions only for our mystery guest in Ohio. Even if you know the answer or think you do, don't post about it because you most likely will be wrong. Just questions only. Our mystery guest at the event will answer all these questions one time and correctly! :)
 
Just an update on this thread and to bring it back up. None other then Mr Scott Kelly from PAS will be the person answering ALL these questions and much more at the reunion next year! Just one of the many reasons to be there with your TTA! So think up some more TTA specific questions you may have for Scott. He welcomes ALL questions about these cars and even he said he can't wait to clear the air on all those mystery questions that have lurked around about the TTA's all these years!
 
Why did the engineers opt for a shorter (than originally used on the Grand National) serpentine drive belt on the TTA ... 1605mm vs 1618mm (if I remember correct). With the setup being identical it would be interesting to understand why.

Isn't the huge accessory bracket mounted to the non GN cylinder head. That may be the reason. Still would want to know Scott's answer.

Good one Glen didnt think about that. That could move that hole assembly slightly closer to the water pump etc and hence require the shorter belt.... as you say Scott's comments on this would be interesting.
 
Did Kenny Duttweiler have any input to the TTA engine design? Name some of the other engineering consultants for this car. I once heard that ATR (Applied Technologies & Research, Inc.) was involved in some follow-on component development planned for TTAs in 1990. True?
 
The 5 Pilot / Pre-Production cars ..

Normally pre-production cars are built on the line to train the assembly line workers and they are supposed to be built identical and with the same parts etc as the production run .... however looking at photos and also seen some of the pilots this was not the case as they seem to have been used more for testing purposes etc and had none production parts on there etc.

Why / What / How was these cars used and how come they left PAS/GM with all those none production items on them?
 
Press photos of the TTA (GMs press kit) @ Indy got the door decal installed different from what the "template" location used on all other cars ... how come? See picture.

Strange TTA there... I never liked that notchback styling. I had a friend with a super nice, highly modified '86 Firebird with a small block 400, Smokey Ram intake and dual Holley 4 barrels that changed his hatch for a notchback. In my opinion, that was a mistake.
 
Saw this asked on another forum....

What were/was the changes/differences between the 200R4 from when they were used in the Grand National compared to the turbo trans am. Was any design work redone to the transmissions and why was it done. How much time was spent going over the transmission for the TTA and where was it done.


Keep in mind guys this list will be printed out and handed to the powers that be at the reunion for the real answers! So keep them coming. Now is the time to iron out all the gray area's that follows these cars around over the years! :cheers:
 
Scott Kelly has asked me to wrap this thread up so we can print it out and get all the questions in order for the reunion for him. So speak up with your unknown questions on these cars! It's going to be a pleasure to hear the correct answers in Ohio this summer!
