coolant guage not working

this is kinda wired after installing the headers back on and new injectors and chip my coolant guage doesnt work but the scanmaster reads CLT 180? when ever i turn the car on the guage jumps up past 260..

thats what i was thinking to but if the sensor was bad wouldn't the scanmaster read incorrectly also?

Good question, not sure on that either, but SM gets info from the computer. And I dont think the computer gets the info from that sensor. Like to hear from someone that has more knowledge on this question.
But I would trust the SM, more than the gauge.

come to think of it i could have messed up by cleaning the engine bay with some degreeser and high pressure water in that area while i had the turbo, intercooler and other hoses off,i wounder if that could have messed anything up..

CTS sensor is at the front of the intake manifold. Damage to the sensor will affect proper oper. of the fuel injection system.

Hey Mike thanks, but what exactly is affect proper operation of the FI system? Or just the readings?

yep thats the area i was cleaning up..since I'm getting proper reading from the scanmaster, do you think the coolant temperature switch could be the problem? i wounder if that controls the guage?

Im going to say yes.

Just reading out of the service manual supplement, It appears the wrong readings would go to the ECM and affect it thru there. But, don't know for sure.

Thank you guys the wire coming off of the coolant temp switch had a cut in it I replaced it and everything is back to normal..

For reference purposes...there are 3 coolant senders.one for the high speed fan,one for the ECM and one for the gauge cluster.

I think this picture is "clickable" for a bigger view.

Yep temp gauge sender was where it was hacked up..more problems now not sure if I should start a new thread or continue along here..got all the new parts in new 60lbs injectors with matching chip from TT, welded up the headers to seal up nice and threw in the remflex gaskets for no leaks even took out the intercooler to clean it out..but she still ain't running just right still not that smooth ideal, I even changed those crappy Hotwire spark plug wires with new ones from autozone..

rlamas, sounds like you did exactly everything I did. Im just waiting for my LT1 maf and translator, and K & N filter to come in, and praying the exhaust leak is fixed.

I've noticed my cross counts don't move at all when it's fully warmed up unless I'm driving

That's not necessarily a problem. Depending on what chip you have it may be in open loop idle and usually that means it will idle on the rich side of the O2 break(.450mV) on a narrowband.

But if you have a abnormally high base fuel pressure that may hinder the ECM's ability to lean out the idle mixture.

I dig this pic it was very helpful to me a few times now.

OP... Good luck with problem FYI A couple years back NAPA was able to provide all three of these sensors, should you need them.
