Tuesday night i cracked a header, and was wondering what you guys might recommend as a replacement. theres nothing in the way of the leak so i do have some time at least

after some phone calls, google searches, and archive browsing, it is now very apparent that nobody makes aftermarket headers... which is bad news for me, since i need this car for transportation.
so to change my question, has anyone had headers custom made? who have you had sucess with and how did you like it?

if it's cracked you can just have it welded. What part of TX are you in? If you're near Houston I might be able to help you find someone. Otherwise, ask around and find someone who is really good at tig welding. I also might suggest having some extra bracing welded in too while your at it and weld the common cracking points. Here's Jasons headers his were MIG welded which would be alright but TIG looks nicer and will hold up a little better (but it'll cost you more) headers - Turbo Trans Am Forum

if having them welded will hold up okay then that would be good... im in dallas, bit far from houston
I've got a guy here in Philly that can do wonders with cracked headers. If you want to send it up I'd be glad to have him see if he can make it new again. He's the welding king that's for sure. To do my GN headers was 100 bucks. He actually did a bridge on mine so it never cracks again!

wow that looks great! i actually have an uncle that can TIG weld it for me on sunday tho, so i think im set. i cant see the actual crack in the header with a mirror on a handle, but when you get it under there you can see it being buffeted around pretty bad by the leak. im hopeful that it is a crack, and not rust. i should be back on the road by monday if all goes well.

long story short it was a blown head gasket, slightly deceptive because there were no overheating issues. good because those irreplacable headers are intact, bad because much of the engine bay is sitting in boxes at the moment.
