Daily Driver that isn't boring and gets good mileage

So I'm still looking a for a daily driver. I want something that is fun, but not too much $$$ and gets good gas mileage and has a warranty. So I've been reading up on the Hyundai Genesis. The entry level model has a 2.0 in line turbo/intercooled drivetrain. Rear Wheel drive. Can get auto or manual. Lots of aftermarket engine upgrades available, also the mods I found wouldn't be detected as to void warranty if needed. Easy to get this car in the high 12's and still be a good daily driver. I definately have to keep the muffler quiet though, don't want any ricer sounding car. IDK, slow day here at work...

Maybe like a 2008 Pontiac GXP with 5.3 liter V8.

Maybe 13.5k-15.5k

Upgraded Impala's, Monte Carlo's and GXP's came with 5.3L V8.

I almost bought one before I seen the new Camry. They are nice since they were well over 30k NEW and now you can get them for 1/2 price.

Great motor!

I'm wanting a turbo though, you know cause I'm addicted.
My lawnmower has a turbo too :dirol:
Those are nice cars too though.
 
id like a c5 z06 as a daily put an auto in it and turbo or supercharge it .... they get great gas mileage and have been as fast as 9's cam only
 
The Genesis coupes are very nice, a lot of bang for the buck. The best combo seems to be the 3.8L RS 6-speed with Brembo brakes, its very quick, handles great with a smooth but firm ride. The 2.0L turbo is peppy, but not in the same league as the 3.8 RS A few customers I've spoken with, (I'm a Kia/Hyundai tech) were not happy with the turbo version due to the higher engine rpm/noise when cruising at highway speeds along with turbo lag. If you can, drive both versions with each engine, you will see a big difference.

In my opinion the Optima & Sonata turbo's area quicker than the Genesis turbo version. Not to bag on the Genesis turbo, its still a nice ride and I'm sure theres some good aftermarket goodies out there to bolt on and un-cork it.
 
Just thought of this, I don't know if you like Mustangs or not, but if you could find a 1985.5-1986 SVO, 2.3L Turbo. That would be a cool daily driver car, the SVO's are quick, good mpg, handle & brake very well, cheap to fix and easy to work on. There collectable too!!! Only down side is no warranty...

Thanks for the info. I hadn't read that. I've looked around the Genesis forums a bit. I've heard that the newer version is getting the Optima motor, but I don't like the new front end for 2013. I saw a modified colbalt turbo bury a stock Genesis Turbo. The cobalt is kinda lame and front wheel drive though. I like turbo cars, which is why I'm looking at it. thanks again.

Oh yeah, I like mustangs. Many friends have had them and I liked all of them.
The SVO was very cool in 86, but I think maintaining one now would be less like the kind of daily driver I want. Finding one that has been kept clean would be kinda hard maybe. A 2003 cobra would be cool, but that would be blowing the gas mileage thing.
 
Saw this 07 cobalt ss supercharged at reputable car lot here has around 40k miles and they are asking 11,000 something.

It would be easy on gas and fun. As long as you like yellow.
 
How bout an older Lexus IS 300 with the 2JZ block. They are rwd. A nice T66 :worthy:would fit well. Basically it's the same set up as the older Turbo Supra.

Not too many of choices for keeping a semi newer daily driver car, rwd, turbo, thats gets decent mpg. I think Miata's had a turbo engine option, rear wheel drive, like driving a big go kart with good mpg. Best part, if you ever get board with it, you can drop an LS1 in it and have a real sleeper. Lots of You Tube engine swap videos for Miata's.
 
My only suggestion would be to consider CPO Mercedes, BMW, or Audi. To me they are very fun to drive (if you pick the right model) and can be an excellent value. I had a '00 E55 AMG as a daily driver for 110,000 miles and it was one of the best cars I've ever owned and my current daily is an '06 CLK55 AMG cabriolet that's a blast to drive and should last me at least as long as the E.

I looked at the G8 GT, but not for a daily driver. In the end I opted to go the GXP route. And if you can keep your right foot out of it you can manage decent mileage. I got around 22+mpg for the 900 miles I drove it from Dallas to Atlanta.
