Defogger Question

I'm sure some of you have encountered an issue with the rear defogger shutting off too soon (within about 2 mins.) I replaced the relay a few years ago and that did not resolve the problem. Would replacing the circuit breaker with an auto reset breaker do any good?

I never use the rear defog. The last time I did, probably 15 years ago, all the lights dimmed and the ampmeter dropped.
 
I have worked with car audio installing alarms and remote starts. When we build high-end audio systems we used circuit breakers that reset themselves. And that back window has a lot of heat line wires running through it and draws quite a bit of power. I only used mine one other time years ago to test and see if it works. But if you need yours to work correctly then I would try replacing the circuit breaker. They become weak especially after it has been tripped a few times just like the breakers in your electrical panel at home. For an auto it will always be 12 V - DC. Just put back the same current rating. Because you don't want to overheat the wires. Hope this helps. Good luck.......
 
Also, if replacing the circuit breaker doesn't work, try replacing the switch in the dash. Just make sure it's a good replacement brand like borg-warner. I had problems with my headlights not going up and down ,, and traced the whole electrical system out and found out it was the headlight switch. I replaced it and worked great. Electrical problems suck ,, so I would try the easy fix Solutions first. Good luck....

Thank you for the info. I'll post my results.
 
Replaced the circuit breaker in location 16 of the fuse box and the defogger now cycles properly. If anyone has the same issue, I suggest that you replace that first, before replacing the defogger relay which is somewhat expensive, IF you are even able to find one. Thanks to all who helped out with the info!
