Does the top come off? I would pay you to take that top, put it on a flatbed scanner, and send me the scans. I need to recreate the decal for the top. I was going to suggest someone take their scanner and put it upside down on top of their battery, but this is even better. I really like that setup you have there. I don't suppose you would be willing to part with that case for an inordinate sum of money, would you?:yes:

I have been searching for ways to recreate the original battery, or at least the looks of it. I noticed that most batteries today have handles, which is not good for this project. They also have black cases, which is also wrong. The original is a white translucent case with black maintenance free top. No caps. I noticed that interstate batteries have white translucent cases and no handle. that is a good start. All we would need is a topper for those batteries and we would be doing pretty well. The topper is a plastic piece that looks like the top of the original battery that is generally put on top of modern batteries. I included a photo of one of the interstate batteries. You will notice it says interstate on the translucent case, in huge letters. This will not be a problem because this is on the side of the case that is invisible when the battery is mounted in the car. The other 3 sides of the battery are unmarked by branding. Having a topper on this battery could be done in such a way as to totally hide the fact that it is a topper. It could be glued to the battery. And since there are no terminals on top, and the original battery did not have removable caps, there would be no way to see that it was even a topper. It would look totally correct. Now, I just have to figure out how to get the topper. Or make it. Looking at the above post, it seems that if you could find old batteries, you could remove the tops and use them. It could be refinished if need be. New decals could be used. Sears has a diehard (die easy?) battery with no caps, and maybe the top of that diehard battery is the same design as the old delco top. I will have to check on that. Anyway, if someone can get me a good scan of the decal I will be reproducing them somehow or another.
I can't imagine they will make repro batteries for us. Not any time soon anyway.
