The driver side valve cover hose came loose and oil went on the engine and firewall. Where does the other end attach leading from the valve cover, it came loose.
ummm the hole in the valve cover is to let vapour back to the turbo inlet bell (the hole in the mouth of the turbo sucking in cold air) Yours looks like it has an elbow grommet with a tube/hose going to nowhere. Sometimes guys do this cause they don't want oil to enter the turbo, so they connect a hose that goes to the firewall and down to the ground.
If all that oil is coming out of your valve cover I think you may have too much blowby gas. I'd check my pcv valve and other vac lines??
thanks jarred, prior to this happening I changed some vacuum lines. I could have knocked the large hose at valve cover off when I was replacing the EGR line. As far as the other end of the large hose, is it ok to leave it unattched and pointing down, As far as the half quart of oil i lost it came out of the valve cover where the large hose attachs. I will attach this back. The motor has been running great, it has no blow by problem at all. Oil press is great at over 60 psi at cold start and hot engine has around 42 psi at around 50mph.
People usually disconnect this because the extra oil can enter and clog the intercooler as well. But most people will disconnect this and put a breather in place. You'll see a similar setup on the GNs on the passenger side valve cover and typically there's a breather in place. Essentially what you have right now is an unrestricted hole with direct access to your valves...not good! I found even with the breather I would still get oil leakage so I extended where the filter was located. When that still didn't work I created a homemade catch can around the filter. That finally did the trick.
Just started it up, and terrible smoke came out of the exaust. Could have the turbo went out, it has a pretty new stock garrett on it. One other thing, I wonder if I got the vacuum hose from the EGR backwards, wouild this cause a problem?
As far as the hose goes, I am doing away with it. And I believe gbody parts has a elbow with a filter in it. Restarted the car and it did not smoke this time. Maybe things are looking brighter. I also have a valve cover breather from metco to put on.
