E-Brake Handle

Thanks for the update Chris, can't wait to see the photos of the result!

Post plenty of photos along with price please.

Then let me know and we can get you to practise on the brake and shifter handles along with doing the shifter boot.

I finally found a good used leather e-brake handle, I still would be interested in getting the original one recovered.

Also got a Nos shifter knob for less than $100.

Damn you been out shopping again lol

Might be a good idea to use the NOS shifter knob to be able to match the color of the leather to use when recovering the e-brake handle and anything else for the rest of us :-)

I got my "kit" sitting here ready to ship out to be recovered :thumbup:

When the shifter handle arrives I will see the true color, a standard to go by.:coffee:

I was lucky on the e-brake handle, nobody bidded on it on e-bay, plus I got free shipping. I have been looking for one for over a year and could not find a good one.

I just got a nos shifter knob for $99 on e-bay, on this they had it listed wrong and said it was only for a couple year models. But I knew the GM part # so I got it and it was a buy it now on e-bay so I didn't have to bid on it.

Is the shifter handle un-used? If so thats a bargain. I paid about $190 for mine. I got some great deals on mechanical linkage set-up for the MSE. It is rare stuff and no one (I dont think) really knew what it was. Other than that my deals are few and far between. Oh well, maybe 2012 will prove to be a bigger and better year for ebay bargains! :thumbup:

The shifter handle was NOS in the GM box, GM part #10040565, the box was even sealed. I opened it and it was the real thing. Yes, new.

My shifter handle and emergency brake handle were recovered and shipped back to me a few days ago. I went through a person Jan found on a Fiero forum. His name is Matt Meyer and he's been recovering shifter handles for a few years, but my emergency brake handle was his first. I'm pretty happy with his work. Matt's email address is [email protected] if anyone is interested. He charges $35.00 for the shifter handle and $25.00 for the emergency brake handle. If you would like to go with a different color/stitching he can do that too.
 
Those do look good. Is the color match up pretty good? I am thinking about getting my ebrake done and my old shifter knob redone. Prices are very reasonable.
 
The color match was really close. I compared it to a NOS shifter handle I bought a couple weeks ago and its pretty close. Good enough to where I'll use the recovered one and probably sell the NOS shifter handle. The only real difference I noticed was the stitching is a little different.
 
I just got the shiftr knob for $30 on ebay in excellent condition. Need steering wheel and shifter leather and parking break. Please let me know.

Forgot all about this thread ... well Chris decided we were too picky as TTA owners apparently and sent my stuff back and said he decided not to do them for us ...
 
I wonder if I had anything to do with that.:eam:

Oh well - Chris is talented, but he got insulted when I had a few issues with his work.

I was pretty disappointed when he said he would not do my shifter and parking brake handles and just sent them back to me ... from what I seen his work is really good and pricing very reasonable.

Let us know how things works out for you and see if you can mention to Chris I'm still interested to get my stuff done :coffee:
 
Sorry it did not go well for either of you guys (8289ta or Greavous). I can understand how things fell apart there on both sides. I suspect it would be very tough to match the precise OEM material in terms of sheen/gloss/tactile feel and texture - then also account for aging effects as well. Photos can only go so far representing a restoration like a steering wheel. No argument. It has to work out for both the supplier and the customer.

From my own perspective, if I was looking for a perfect OEM wheel, I would have waited for a NOS wheel from eBay, but it's not that important to me in this case. I was looking for something of the same look/style as OEM - closest possible material and color match. Possibly even a subtle material upgrade that would not be noticeable (to me) against the vehicle. In my opinion, that's what I got.

I've had a wheel done by Dallas Steering Wheels as well and the work was nice, but the experience was detached. I wanted something a bit more intimate since I was not confident the DSW guys would select the right material for the TTA wheel. I had worked with Chris in the past on a few things in the Z forum and I found Chris' workmanship and material selection really exceeded my expectations. His communication through the process was top notch and I especially liked how he walked through the material selection with me. But again that's me.

I've got a few other projects going (right now having the Z finished up). When the ebrake is back installed in the Z, I'll send some photos if you guys are interested. When TTA #689 is ready for shifter, shift boot and ebrake handle, I will send them to Chris assuming he is still open to working on TTA stuff. As with the wheel, close style/color-wise to OEM (with maybe upgraded material?) is what I'll be looking for.

Will let you know how it goes.

I've had no work done by Chris, but I can speak highly of Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. They did my TTA wheel and I am extremely happy with it. Guys at the TTA reunion can back that up-they saw the car and the wheel. Only the extreme perfectionist/concourse types would probably notice the slight differences. I just wanted to give a thumbs up to Dallas.
