Exhaust set up

TURBO1

Super Cool Member
Hi group, just wanted to get some feedback on what I'm thinking of doing. My TTA is close to stock. Has a K&N air filter, the previous owner put a "Test pipe" on in place of the cat, the rest of the exhaust is stock. I've been doing my homework on exhaust systems for our cars for a bolt on system, & there's not many choices out there. I'm more so doing this for a nice sound & looks & if a pick up a few more ponies, thats great also. The stock exhaust will be taken off, wrapped up & stored away.

I mainly want a cat back, stock appearing, stainless steel system. I found out that a 4th Gen. T/A system will fit with changing the rear hangers & have a muffler shop attach the front extension pipe at the cat.

This is my plan, remove the test pipe & put on a Magnaflow Catalytic Conveter GN replacement part #93439 w/the adaptor too the T/A ball flange. Then 3" Stainless Steel Corsa system #14144 (has some sweet looking stock appearing tips). Its a very free flowing muffler, no drone, & for a V6 Turbo, should sound wicked. Any thoughts or ideas?

Borla makes a good one for 3rd gens also , should bolt right up and has the dual double tips on the end just like the factory setup

best of all borla sounds awesome

I like the Borla one also, but the only thing holding me back on that is, its adjustable. For me I just want to put it on & keep it clean, & drive it. I've done the adjustable exhaust set up on my motorcycle & what a pain in the !@#$%.
I really don't want to go that route again, I know some people use electric cut outs & what knot, but thats not the route I want to go.
I was torn between the GMMG system & Corsa, they both sound great, but I keep hearing chambered exhasut isn't good for turbo applications & thats what the GMMG is. The Corsa sounds exotic & mean & w/the turbo sounds, it should be sweet for a V6.

Why don't you want to go electric cutout? Just curious. I still run the stock exhaust from the cat back. The stock intermediate pipe is 3", maybe just change the muffler if you want a different sound. I personally like the stock low key rumble of the stock muffler and also like the banshee giving birth sound when it's open. Just saying that the $$$ could be put into a better down pipe which would actually benefit you more ET wise. I run 12.50's through the closed stock exhaust, granted I have other mods but the stocker doesn't seem to cause too much back pressure comparing open 3" to run 12.10's...

The electric cut out, is just not the route, I would like to go. I really don't want to cut up the stock original exhaust either. I guess, I like to be different, & do stuff that know one and/or few people have tried. If this works system works out, like I'm hoping, maybe other people will do the same or similar.

WOW, Time fly's, I didn't realise its been over year since I posted this. Well, I finely found a slightly used, but near new Corsa muffler by its self. Its stainless steel 3" inlet, dual 3" (crossflow) outlets. This muffler is not available separately (I've tried & visited the factory), only part of their $900+ dollar systems, hence why it took a very long time to find one and I got lucky. I think the "Stainless Steel Works" dual tips look nice and stock appearing, but depends on size of the tail pipes.

I have a few questions on what size exhaust pipe to use. I hear 3" is the way to go, is that all the way back including 3" tail pipes? Or 3" to the muffler & 2.5 tail pipes like the stock system? It looks like the stock TTA system is 2.75" to the muffler & 2.5" tail pipes, is that right? I would like everything to flow togeather & look good, so what ever size tail pipes I use, I'll get the matching size tips. What are you guys using? If you have any input/ideas/pictures, drop me a line, thanks!!!
