Festival Car at Mecum

I saw a post from Rossgn on another board indicating he was going to put it in there. At the time I did not see it listed in their directory or schedule so I figured that may hurt it some with no exposure, is it in the directory now?
I was planning to put my ttop car in it but to be in the printed brochure listing the cutoff was first week of July so maybe next year depending on pricing.
 
Mecum takes a big chunk in commission. Do you think that it is possible to bring in enough cash at an auction to make up that difference?
It is a relatively soft market, but at 10% commission I think I would take my chances with Ebay, CL and messageboards.
 
I guess i don't understand everyone's fixation with mileage, to me it's not so much the amount of mile's as the type of mile's ( hwy vs city ) and how well it was maintained. 10k mile's of hard stop and go driving and poor maint. can really take a toll on the car and your wallet if you paid top dollar for it thinking all was good cause of the low mile's. Personally i don't think 80k on a well maint. car is high when you consider it's 24 yr old.... i think it's more that there are alot of very low mile TTA's out there vs normal mile's for a car this old....

I agree on the thought process and I have seen some very nice high mileage cars and some very poor looking low mileage cars.

When looking at a car of that is 24 years old, you don't know when or how the miles where put on except for listening to what the last 1 or 6 owners state it was used for.

I knew a guy who owned a TTA several years ago that had very low miles on it, but they were very hard miles since he trailered it to Road America every weekend to road race it. He went through 3 sets of brake pads each weekend and I think the car had less then 10K miles on it back in 99 or 2000 (I forget). That car was beat, but low miles.

So you never know what you are buying unless you know the truth and history of the car.

Last time i got excited about the mile's on a car was the early 80's when i bought my 74-sd-455, 60k and change and one owner, for the pay off of 2k, hah, the good old day's....:clap:
 
Ya...I'm like the 3rd from the last car to go through. Hope there are some left that aren't to drunk to bid:)

Actually, I've got a light whining noise in the tranny....sounds similar to a worn power steerning pump. I did some archive searches on tb.com and that it was going to be the torque convertor, as the soudn stops when you put it in neutral and coast. . Swapped out another D5, but that's not it. Still a very light whine.

Anyhow, I don't want someone buying it without knowing there will be some transmission work in their future, so I will have to put a note on the car stating such, so that will prolly eliminate most bidders. Can't pull the car from the auction, at this point, without paying Mecum their commision so might as well run it through. Car runs strong and tranny shifts great...changed fluid and pan was clean..no debris...but I've had enough GNs to know that the sound is not normal.

I have to have the car delivered to the auction Tuesday or Wednesday, so not time for a transmission shop to correct it (unless yall know a transmission guy in DFW that works weekends and holidays) I guess we'll see what happens next Saturday the 8th.

You might try Jack Laswell, he is right off I30 east of Dallas in Royce City, always has a GN in his shop and knows the 2004R very well,several of his trannies are in 10 sec cars around here, his shop is part of his house land so he is always there most of the time.
Wouldn't hurt to try to contact him about it.
 
Thanks Rob...have used Jack before in my GN...top notch shop. Just didn't think about him for tranny work.

Got lucky and Eagle transmission said they can sort out the problem and have car ready for me Wed AM, which gives me plenty of time to get the car signed in to Mecum. Buyer will now have a very nice TTA with a freshly rebuilt tranny.

Well, the tranny shop says it's the rear differential...looks like it needs a new carrier and bearing. Not having any luck finding one in the DFW area (so far) and there rear end guy is off tomorrow. I did need a little more stress in my life :bye2:
 
try stan hopkins co. 214-398-0636 i own plano transmission in plano, tx and i have used stan for 24 years and never had a problem. try dallas dif.for parts #214-752-6736. i use stan and each time its one day vary good work vary good shop.talk to shanee tell them jeff plano trans. sent you. stan is vary resnable on cost just had late chevy suburbon done for 750.00
 
i will be at mecum saturday want to se the price on festival cars.i have festival car#52. and a 31k 73 loaded superduty trans am and was going to sell them both at mecum but i am going to try ebay. best of luck
 
I should be delivering the car tomorrow afternoon. Suprisingly, Mecum seemed to have no issue with the late delivery. I guess they just put strong verbage in the seller agreement so they wont have too many stragglers like me. I noticed there were several SDs listed, which is certainly unusual...even a SD Formula. Wish I would have hung on to my 74 SD a few years longer...sold it right before they finally started getting some recognition.

The last two SD455 TAs I saw sell on Ebay only brought low 30s, which suprised me. You never really know the whole story on the Ebay cars, though. Everything looks good in pictures.Will be interesting to see how the ones in the Dallas auction do.

Yeah it wasn't long ago i seen a low mil. 74 SD unrestored that SOLD for around 38k, i just about fell out my chair, i would have traded both my TTA'S and my D-MAX for that car...Yep there is some real deal's out there...:thumbup: now's the time to buy , not sell...:( :sick:
 
Good luck with sale. I'd like to know how your experience is with Mecum.

If mine isn't gone by January, it may be in Orlando for that one. Of course, I don't have it advertised anywhere, yet. I have just reached a point of too many kids in college at one time, to have 24 year old sitting car with 16K miles. Just want it gone. I have loved it, enjoyed it some, but too much going on.
 
Well, the car's finally checked in. Definately a learning experience with all the procedures to get the car registered, received etc. I bet I walked 20 miles today. In reality, it's like a big, big car show....with cars trickling out on a regular basis.
