Finally!! Have A Deposit Down

Hello all, I am a fairly new member. I've been looking and reading for a while. I have finally located a car fairly locally, looked at driven and placed a deposit and I plan to pick it up in the next few days. Hhere is where my mind started to question things, I called a buddy to CarFax the VIN, he said it comes up as a V8, it is supposed to be a TTA. I assume this is because they were pulled off the assembly line to made into TTA?

I am very excited and about to buy this car and I want to make sure there are no crazy stories with it.

If someone could verify the origins of this car I would appreciate it

Thanks for the response. It is a leather, T-Top Car with steering wheel controls. I didn't look for decals but it has all the emblems on the body and an owners kit that is missing the windshield decal.

Well guys I have it! It rides great and pulls awesome when the Turbo kicks in. It is a 100% different animal then my other third gens. It is actually kind of slow off the line then it really kicks in, opposite of a v8 car which is torquey down low then fall on their face with RPM.

I was expecting it to be a little quicker out of the hole but I think I need to become familiar and go thru everything. It has some mods, the current owner was not a mechanical person and could not tell me exactly what was in the car except it has a bigger turbo and different injectors installed by the previous owner. His son said it was a T 44.

I'm going to check the chip, injectors and take a closer look at the turbo for numbers. I have the previous owners info in the packet he gave me, I'm going to try to reach out to him for more details.

Are there any good books on these cars like the TPIS Insider hints for the v8s?

Keep in mind these cars were built with top end in mind... with a automatic in 1989 you couldn't have both, just take it nice and slow until you know more about the car.. oh yeah, stay OUT of wot for now or you will get a lesson in changing head gaskets, SM is a must.

FWIW, #545's P.O. was also not the detailed technical sort... I had the car "gone over" by the guys at Buick Turbo Performance - who really know their stuff - to be safe.

They found many "wrongs" that could have led to some real trouble. Please be careful, as it sounds like you can't be 100% sure of what you have yet.
Good luck getting squared away.

Yea 44 turbo (5831) needs more converter without the Garrett exhaust housing. After 4000 rpm you can feel the difference over the stocker.

Congrats, welcome to the club. Fun cars!
