First GXP Numbers

TTA 1077

Well-Known Member
Well I couldn't get to the track today but, second best thing is dyno numbers. I took it to the local speed shop and had three pulls in stock form to baseline. Results were good, conditions were OK, a little warm though. Here is a video clip and chart, This will have to do until I get to the track. One other thing, the owner of the shop showed a little disappointment because his new SS Camaro only dynoed 315hp/321tq compared to my 339.8HP/345.4tq

Sorry fist post wouldn't upload. Here is the Dyno graph but I still can't upload the video?

Was the new Camaro automatic or manual? I'm liking the numbers!

Same as mine, 6 speed Auto w/ sport shift mode. The numbers would be higher with the manuals, but the autos are quicker. Also the manual guys have had some complaints of clutch feel and leaking cases. It calculates to approx. 18% parasitic loss for the Auto (rated 415hp factory)

Nice numbers!! Looking forward to see your track times. Are you going to try drag radials or run what came stock? I see some spinning tires in your future!:burnrubber:

Well the first runs will be on stock tires just to keep base lining before I start adding things. They will also be the runs against the TTA. I'm planning on converting the TTA back to stock as well with the exception of the exhaust for the challenge. After that, will try some drag radials. By the way why the hell can't I get the video clip to upload? I tried converting to a zip and it still won't work. It's 121mb, is it to large?

That's kinda sad to make it stock again IMO, but you should do what you want. I have my stock stuff if I ever sell it which I hope I never have to do, but are you trying to enter into car shows as a stock vehicle? Good luck with all you do.

Well If I could get someone in NY that has a stock TTA who would not mind taking it to the track, it would save me the hassle. But I want everything to be as even as possible. I was planning to change everything back at the 20 year mark anyway. People are starting to appreciate the car a lot more now and have commented on how nice I kept the original paint, wheels, interior etc. Too bad in my haste to get the ATR exhaust on, I cut up the original and disposed of it :( everything else I have. The G8 is my new play thing and I don't want to beat on the TTA that much anymore. I feel it's time to bring 1077 back to what she was when she left PAS. Maybe at the 25 year mark a full restoration would be a fitting birthday gift.

Well, that makes more sense then. The Camaros have different engine codes for the auto vs. the manual. The auto cars with DOD are only rated at 400hp so the difference between his car and yours seems about right. Also, the manual Camaros have had some concerns about early breakage.

One thing I like about the new Camaros is the way they set up the paddle shifters on the auto. Up on one side, down on the other. Much better than what has been offered in the past, say with the Corvettes or Grand Prix GXP. Wish they would've offered that on the G8s! Or at least switched the manual shift mode to up being backwards, down going forwards. That follows the weight shift and forces of the car. I wonder if anyone has changed this on their G8? Not sure if it's a hard cable connection or just electrical. DontKnow:

I wish they had the paddle shift as well. A friends Grand Prix Comp G has them, while not perfect (like say Ferrari) they are still fun. I have had some issues shifting fast though. A couple of times I popped out of sport mode and didn't know it and pushed the shifter up into neutral:jaw:

Yep - I believe the auto has 400 hp, and the manual has 422 -

but, that's just shooting from the hip - DontKnow:

Ooops, not good. I'm not a big fan of the "thumb shifters" on the Grand Prix. The new Malibus have the same steering wheel as the Corvette and on the V6 models some have the same type of paddle shifters. I've tried both types and both are less than ideal IMO. There is an aftermarket kit to convert the Corvette type to more traditional paddles.

I went thru the gears a few times on the G8 GT I drove as a rental car. While it might not be perfect at least it holds the gear. Would've been nice to have the gate closer to the driver but maybe they figured the "normal" driver would be more prone to putting it in sport mode by accident. I wonder what side the the Holden models have the gate on? I'll have to look for a detailed interior shot.

And for the record, I drove a BMW with the manual shift mode. I had it not shift on me a couple of times on the 1-2 shift. Always great when your approaching redline and have to go back and hit it again.

I think the Aussie version is set up the same way but that would put it close to the driver since it is right hand drive. My mom’s Passat 4 motion with sport shift misses too and wont let you hold a gear, it will shift it self at certain rpm's

Found a good interior shot, looks like the switch it to be opposite the driver. BTW, I dig this two-tone blue/black interior! I wish they offered that here. Not sure about all the blue on the dash as it might cause reflection and fade over time. But I think the seats look cool, could use some blue on the door panels too.

Nice! I like the blue too. They did that with the GTO. MY GXP is black with Red inserts and trimmed steering wheel, dash is all black "GXP" embroidered on the seat back and red ring gauges.

By the way I have not been able to upload the video clip. Can any one help with that? It is about 1minute long @121mb, is that to big? I need to figure this out so I'll be able to post the TTA GXP runs when I record them!

I would say 121mb is pretty big. Can you compress it first? Will it upload to YouTube? It might be easier to just post a link if you can get it to YouTube.

Writing down my VIN for my maintenance folder on the G8 and noticed these coincidences, 6G2***W89L3*7231. Nice huh?:)
