Fluid leaks???

I have my car on the lift... mind you, I haven't owned this car long, it only has 15,400 miles on it. When I first got the car, I changed all the fluids, and found that it was leaking something all down the front end of the engine soaking the cross member below. I found the power steering cap stripped, so I fixed that hoping that, that was the issue...wrong. I've only put about 200 miles on her since I serviced it...including cleaning the mess out of everything, only to find that there's fluid soaking the front cross member again. I lost my sense of smell, or I probably could tell what it was. Just looking and feeling it, I'm 90% sure it's motor oil. For the life of me I can't tell where it's coming from. Has anybody out there had this experience with theirs? Any clues? Thanks for the help.

Oh geez, where to start....could be.

Oil pressure sending unit
Oil cooler O-ring(s)
Turbo oil supply line
Turbo return line
Oil pan gasket

You know....if it's not leaking oil then you've run out of oil to leak.

Man, with all the stuff on the top and front of that engine, it's almost impossible to get to it or see it. But you guys gave me some definite things to look at. I love the car, but I hate the lack of room to get your hands in there to work on things. I'll just have to put my big boy pants on, roll up my sleeves and start digging.

For one. Where are you in Louisiana?

I would check the flex hose that comes out of the turbo.

If you are not 100% sure its oil, It may be coolant. as I had the same thing happen where coolant was running on the front crossmember. I traced it and turns out I must have leaned too hard on the coolant overflow tank and had a TINY crack that was sooo hard to find. That was a Easy fix and most of them are.

Im in The Hammond area if you are on the Northshore.

Just guessing of course but it's probably the oil pan gasket. Could check the front seal on the trans if it's not oil.

All the gaskets are 25 years old... It's nice to go through the engine and replace all the gaskets... Seals everything back up.

The problem is finding a knowledgeable and trustworthy mechanic if you can't find time or do it yourself.

I'm in the NW end of Louisiana, about 15 miles from Shreveport. I pretty sure it's not coolant. One reason it's tough to tell, besides my loss of smell, is everything on the underside of the car had been undercoated with some black stuff, so the fluid hits the coated cross member and takes some of the black with it. I'll sure double check the overflow tank, and I'll for sure see if I can find the flex hose on the turbo, since I feel like it's coming from the front of the engine. I sure appreciate the help.. I sure know where Hammond is, I've bought a couple of vehicles from your local Chevy dealer.... They tend to want to deal a lot better then the ones up here.

I'm pretty sure it's from the front of the engine. The transmission seems to be dry... thank goodness. Thanks for all the advice!

Does it smoke from the back of eng. after it has sat for a while? If not its not the rear main, take the 4 bolts off that hold the turbo heat sheild on and feel under the center where the drain tube is, also look with a flashlight where the oil feed goes into the block.
