As some of you know from Georges post I took a trip from Canoga Park, CA to Brooklyn, NY in my leather/hardtop TTA #1461. Thanks again George, I had a great time during my unfortunatly short visit :) Along the way I've had time to reflect on things, like how many places I've gotten to see becaue of being into these cars. I've been to 24 of the continental 48 states in various TTA's and have come to a few conclusions. Those states include CA, NV, UT, WY, NE, IA, AZ, NM, TX, OK, MO, IL, IN, OH, WV, VA, TN, MD, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, and MA.

California is alot like New York yet totally different, after going to LA and northern Ca I see similar differences like from NYC to upstate NY. And there's traffic and attitude, different but the same :)

There is nothing more beautiful or intimidating at times than the desert. Watching the sun rise or set out west is a sight to behold.

I gained a new respect for country music. I like the message from alot of songs. It's also very patriotic along with much of the middle of this country, something I'm sad to say I dont see enough of in NY, and CA didnt seem much better.

It's nice to go for hours without seeing a foreign car, oh and now I want a pickup truck :)

Of all the states I've driven through I hate driving through Pennsylvania. Now anyone from PA dont take offense, I love Pa and more specifically Philly. Tons of history, sights, and food - though I'm glad Tony Lukes and others have opened up in NYC. But driving from the west Pa seems to take forever to get through and is most likely the first place you'll hit traffic. I was totally stopped on I70 within minutes of hitting Pa. Same thing happened a few years ago with #884 on I80.

It's been a long weekend :) Here's a few pics. In St Louis the car got a bath and I took off the front plate, much better I think.

Glad to see you made it across the country!
I agree with you on alot of things.
I must say though, California is patriotic, just only on Cinco Del Mayo. :)
A truck huh?
You mean a 18 wheeler?
Cause even I have thought about that, driving across the lower US (picking up airplanes with my brother).
Those guys see the real country.
I am surprised to not see any photos of your car with mile marker 231 anywhere. ;)
Every state I drive through (even without my car), I am always on the lookout.
I love the 3rd picture. Kingman, Route 66 auto sales, on Stockton Hill Road.
We (Lisa and I) love the sunrises and sunsets here. Sometimes the mountains turn orange to purple. Simply beautiful.
We both wish you had more time, we could have shown you around the area.
I highly doubt that was the car's first rainstorm. ;)
It was great meeting you in person, and having the same thoughts and beliefs on things.
Hopefully, someday you can come back, and this time, bring your wife!
Maybe visit Las Vegas, I'm only 100 miles away, and our speed limit is 70! :)

Damn what a trip! Thanks for sharing! Cool pics and story! How did the car run? Any issues at all? Also what kinda gas mileage did you get? The TTA seems to get the best gas mileage out of all my cars and trucks. I agree with you on PA. It's a cool state to go thru but it seems like forever. I went to the BPG event in Ohio this summer and it seemed like forever getting thru PA.
 
Good story and pics Steve, thanks for sharing. :cheers: I recognize the Welcome to Ohio scene from I-70 as there are usually some Ohio troopers waiting on the other side to welcome you. Have passed by there many a time going from Chicago to the TA Nats in Dayton. Even though my car has been gone for a while I still find myself lurking on the board here. One of these days I'll make it out to see George's new place. I really can't imagine that he's collected any more stuff...:wall:

I remember the 8 hour drive back home when I got my current TTA, it went so fast and only wish it was longer. Great car as well.

Hi Ron!
Steve didn't get the big tour, he was on borrowed time.
In fact, when it looked like we were going to get hit with a downpour, he had to leave-fast.
He got the tour thru the garage, but not everything was pulled out of boxes. Well, just a couple of really small boxes. :)
Just as he left, we got hit hard with the rain, I barely was able to get the car back in the garage.
And yes, I have even more crap.
Time to build a bigger garage.
I am thinking about renting a hanger at the airport.
If I ever get around into going over there.

George I definatly want to head back out there someday, maybe do Vegas scince the wife really wants to go there. Wont be for a while with the house and all but definatly in the plans :)

The car ran great Jim, no problems everything working and ice cold a/c made for a nice trip. I was keeping track of gas mileage and depending on the speed limits and terrain I was getting 24-28mpg.

As for mile marker 231, I was trying to get a similar shot to this one with #884

But the short shoulder dropped off quick and the sign was low so the best I could do was this

I tried to reposition but it was real loose and I didnt want to end up stuck on the side of I40 :)

I do agree that the first picture probably can't be beat.
When you guys come out to Vegas, you are both welcome to stop by and visit. We look forward to it(even if you don't bring a 20th TTA this time ;) ).

Thanks Chris, the sunset was beautiful but there was no place to stop so I snapped a pic in the mirror and it ended up being one of my favorite pics from the trip.

I didnt push the car too much not wanting to get either stuck with the car or pulled over but I did have it up a little over 100mph a few times. The car is tight and felt good at speed. Most of the time I was between 70 and 80mph.

I was trying George, I'm not the best at taking pics but I get a few good ones now and then :)

Even I have trouble keeping it uner 80 mph on my own street!
And I have to fight myself to keep it under 100mph on the hwy.
Lisa is constantly telling me to slow down.
Then, later, she asks why we are going so slow. ;)
These cars are a real blast to drive! :)

Congrats again Steve on the latest addition to the collection.

I hope to see all of em in person some day ;) Although the red one is nice too.

Otherwise I hope to see ya next year at etown for Pontiac day, gonna take a break from racing next year so I hope to be sitting in the show area with ya :D
