Front brake bracket?

-Tom-

New Member
Hi

Today i had the idea to clean my brakes... but then i saw my front bracket on the right side is broken!! There is a small chink :(

Now of course i need to look for a other one. But now i dont know from which car i need to look and i cant find any parts or numbers on rockauto. I know the brakes are borrowed from the corvette. But when i look at the brake brackets on ebay they look different.

Can somebody tell me what kind of brake bracket is mountet in the turbo trans am and where i can get this part?
Maybee somebody have a bracket at home (a used part is welcome also) and would like to sell it!

Thanks for any information. Greetings from switzerland

Post a photo of the one you are looking for ... the front setup is rare and might be hard to find specially if it's the spindle you need.

Hi

Thanks for your answer. I have number 903. I made some pictures now, but the wheels are on. So it was difficult to make good pictures, but i hope you can see what you need to see!

Hi

So i will write once more. I made 2 posts with pictures. But then i see the message "post will be reviewed by moderator". It was few days ago and nothing happens.. but i need to fix that problem very soon of course.

I have #903.

My calipers are not screwed, they are latched and fixed with a locking pin only.

Hawks has some 1LE Caliper Brackets for 82-92 Firebird. May they fit?

Thanks for help! Greetings

Tom,

If you are thinking the caliper bracket is "broke" where the lock pin sits at the bottom that is the way they look/work.

I see nothing wrong with any of the parts in those pictures?

Have you compared your left and right side and if I missed something maybe you can circle it in red in one of those pictures.

Hi

Now finally I replaced my front caliper bracket. First of all the front brakes are not turbo trans am specific. The TTA haves the 1LE brake system, this brake system was available as option for some third gen f-body's but stock at the TTA's. So difficult to find as used parts.

It seems GM does not produce them anymore, but its possible to order them on spoon performance website... sadly as pair only. But I hadn't a choice and bought them, today replaced left and right side. They fit perfectly, maybe I prevent to crash my TTA

If somebody is interested why I had to change my brake bracket, so look at this pictures... and next time if you do a general check, so check your caliper brackets too!

Hi

Now finally I got new brake brackets. I would like to share with you what I found out about the brake system.

First of it is the 1LE brake system, not Turbo Trans Am specific. The 1LE brakes was a option on some firebird or trans am models, but on the TTA the 1LE was standard. But because of this, used parts are very hard to find, almost impossible.

I heard OEM parts are not available anymore. But on Spoon's website I found new brake brackets for the 1LE System. Sadly as pair only, but I had not a choice and bought them. A few days later I got them, I changed both of them (left and right side) and they fit well. So now my trans am is on the road safe again and may I have prevent an accident :cool1:

So I don't know why the old one is broken... but if you check your car, check the front brakes also, carefully :disgust:

Now I have some pictures for you if you want to know why I had to change my front brake brackets;

Tom, glad you got it sorted ... some hair line crack initially so could been material problem from day 1 possibly ... not seen / heard of anyone having that problem.

Yep Tom Goad (Pontiac at the time) specified the use of the 1LE brake setup for the TTA as he used it for the race cars at the time so we benefited from that.
