Is it best to remove the front swaybar for a good launch. I will be driving my TTA mostly on the street, but I want the best launch possible. If I remove the front swaybar, will the car wash-out around corners badly?
For the best Launch, At the track I would just Loosen the front sway bar and get a set of airbags for the springs. I tried driving around the street with the sway bar just loosened and the car handled like crap.
Scott, Leave it in the car and do like Chris says. Also buy you some good racing slicks.I've not loosened mine yet and have a best 60' of 1.63 on M&H DOTs.OH yeah a transbrake wouldn't hurt(forgot about that)hehe! WES
I'd get rid of it,I drove around plenty with Moroso drag springs,Koni struts(loosened up)and no front sway bar. With slicks and a little burnout it would pull the left front on the street. If I had a chance to get it to the track before the trans blew I'm sure of 1.5x 60fts and pulling both fronts(my best to date was a 1.60).
just my $.02 but has anybody gone to a 4x4 shop and looked into swaybar disconnects? they make them for jeeps nad god only knows what else, they replace the rods on the ends and allow you to run the sway bar on the street and disconnect it at the track with minimal effort (pulling 2 pins)
havent checked myself but shouldnt be too hard to adapt to a tta
That sounds like a good idea for someone who races a lot! Say, how do you guys unhook the sway bar with minimal work at the track? Do you need a jack? I have never unhooked the sway bar before, is it hard?
The swaybar weighs 22lbs, so you can disconnect it to allow suspension travel but its still 22lbs at the total wrong end of the car for Drag Racing.
I dont have mine on either, I took it off to try it and got used to the way the car drives. Its very noticeable at first but then its fine.
DJ, You need a new Transguy. My stock Tranny went 103K miles of constant track abuse. Sounds like your guy doesnt know the diff between and 200 and a 700

Remember when I said that I took the transmission apart, and it appeared that nothing was wrong? Well I was nearly right!
I took the car from the dealer's shop to another smaller shop, and he said that the
Endhousing bushing? was gone, and it would
take approx. 1/2 hour to fix! I'm not sure which guy to believe, but it's worth a shot
just to get the bushing fixed and see if that
is the complete problem! Then I will have to
address the driveshaft!
I'll cast my vote for keeping the sway bar on the street. Just take it off at the track, its not that hard. I was driving a friend of mine's 97 Firebird and had to stop quickly from 85 mph, that was not fun, the car was ALL OVER the place. With my 2000 firebird, i can plant the brake to the floor at 120 and stop straight as an arrow

Good point, now that you mention it when I had my '78 TA on stock 8" rims with the sway bar disconnected (broken link) it was all over the place under high speed braking, forgot all about that and it wasnt fun at all!!
