Remember they used a different hanger (same as on the 1LE road cars) so the replacements out there are the "generic" V8 version and not the same unfortunatly ... very close but there's some differences in the design.
See photos below and this is what we saw as the main differences between the TTA specific hanger #25090906 and the "standard" hanger #25027221 (readily avalible aftermarket):
The TTA unit has a single wire going from the harness plug to the fuel pump and it doesn't have a plastic plug on the end. It has a metal connector that looks like the kind that would normally go into the GM plastic plugs.
- The ground wire for the harness goes to the outside of the unit rather than the inside like the 25027221 and most of the other ones I've seen.
- The pipe that the fuel pump attaches to stays real close to 3/8" OD instead of necking down to 5/16' like the 25027221.
- The metal rod the sender float attaches to has a different bend than the though they're the same length overall.
- There's a large metal bracket that I'd guess is a support for the fuel pump the 25027221 has but the 25090906 does not.
Last time I looked VPI had maybe 3 left but today looks like they got none left :-(
What's wrong with your hanger? Is it just the fuel sensor on there then that can easily be replaced instead of swapping the complete unit out.
I had the same problem with mine - I filled the car before winter storage and the following spring the sender was stuck on full. I was prepared to have to take the tank down and open up the fuel level sender and give it a good cleaning. But I searched the net and found that people who had a similar issue threw a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner in. So I figured I would give it a try. I put it in and drove it last year, and by the fall, the sender wasn't stuck on full anymore. You might want to give it a try. It can't hurt.
BTW - if that doesn't work, you can clean the varnish off the internals of the fuel level sending unit. Take the tank down, take off the sender and open it up. Then give a good cleaning, and all should be good. It is gummed up with varnish, making it stick.
