GM Power Antenna Repair Kit

Coming to the TTA world by way of the Buick GN's, I have always had bad memories of changing out power antennas (just about have to remove the passenger front quarter panel to get access).

When I bought TTA #345, the antenna was stuck in the up position and the power connector was unplugged inside the passenger dash area (I plugged in the connector and could hear the motor working so I figured the plastic rod was broke)

Not a big deal since the antenna worked and I didn't care if it went up or down anyway

Now that most of the work on #345 has been completed, the antenna (not working) started bugging me so I ordered the GM Repair kit on EBay ($24.00) and decided to check it out.

It took me about 2 hours working very slowly, following the directions, drilling out the rivits, cleaning old grease ad re-greasing internals, re-assembling and low and behold the damn thing actually worked

Of course the motor will probably burn up now and I'll be right back where I started, but the repair kit does work and next time I could do it in less than an hour, no problem

Good job on the antenna Ray ... never tried to get it out with it stuck in the up position, did you have to cut it or could you actually get it out that way? (just if I ever have to sort mine out ... got the rebuild kit and a couple of broken spare one to take part from if needed...)

Luckily it's pretty easy to pull out if the motor does croak!

Once I cut the 3 power wires, and unscrewed the 2 little antenna screws, it angled out pretty easy, even with the antenna fully extended.

I added 6 extra inches of wire to the splice area and that made it even easier when I re-installed the unit

Of course I made sure to power the unit up and down several times to make sure it actually extended / retracted before I put it the antenna back into the car

Next project is to try and get the steering wheel controls to work with the newer version pontiac CD player I put in the car
