Got a fishy Radio?

Does it smell like fish in your car? Does your radio refuse receive any channels?
It might be the Caps in the tuner causing your problem.
I recently took the TTA out and notice lots of snowy reception and a fishy smell in the car. All this was sudden onset.
Swapped the radio for a known good one, which worked fine with the antenna.
I opened the original radio and was greeted by more fish and leaking caps in the radio tuner (they sit behind the area the antenna is plugged in).
Just ordered new caps ($1.50). We'll see if it fixes it.
Anyone else ever get the fish greeting?

A cap that is blown, freshly anyway, has a distinct aroma . I wouldn't call it fishy but we all perceive things differently.

BUT, if possible could you post some hi res pictures of the culprits with points of reference.

I've read about this fix recently and it results from a rather sudden drop in volume output of the right channel along with static and volume creep.

All the folks who've done the cap replacement have noticed a much improved radio. And unless you've had your radio serviced lately you probably have leaking or blown capacitors near the IC.

So I finally got around to replacing the caps. WOW!! The radio has never sounded this clear! If anyone attempts this repair, below is a pic. The Caps you'll need are 16V 470uF x2; 16V 47uF x1; --those three are the main culprits, but since I was in there I also replaced a few other. Belows the three, antenna connector is to the right.
No more fish :headbang:
