got my scanmaster, i have one question on the install

echostatic

Turbooo
the red wire, it says to connect it to a fused power source. what exactly do they mean by fused power source? i swear, wording throws me all the time.

I think that just means that you have a properly sized in-line fuse inbetween the battery (or any power source) and the scanmaster.

yeah you basically just need a fuse in between in case it shorts out. I hooked in the back of the fuse box I believe there is a spot named ACC or something along those lines that you can pin into that has power when the car is turned on.

i think ive got one free spot on there ill plug into... i would be done with it by now but autozone doesnt have any .125" spade connectors... im gonna try o'reilleys on the way home.

Fused power source sometimes means "switched power source" which is what you want. Meaning it only has power with key on.

2 autozones, an oreillys, and a frys electronics later, i still have no .125 connector. so i spliced into the orange wire. its all hooked up, i just have to put it back together and test it. i have more pressing matters to take care of now, though, as my car just started to leak its antifreeze all over the driveway -.-

the situation continues to degrade, i traced the leak back to the little overflow tank that comes with razors alky kit for the coolant. i was going to inspect it for leaks when i accidentally dropped it and cracked the lid, spewing antifreeze everywhere. i made it to autozone just before they closed, only to find out they didnt have any suitable lids, so ive glued it.

i still dont know where that leak is coming from... this is nothing unusual though, this is about on par with what normally happens when i work on my car.

it looks like in addition to leaking around the bottle, its leaking from somewhere under the engine as well. real hard to see where exactly. its going back to the shop tomorrow so they can fix whatever they didnt do right when replacing the head gaskets.

on a positive note, the scanmaster seems to be working nicely.
