I found where the noise was coming from and unfortunatly it is a blown head gasket! Not trusting anyone local to work on my car, I am going to do the repairs myself. Anyone out there know where the best place to get the parts might b? And where I might find a book for this motor for torque specs, etc?

Bolt Torque Explained Torque Specs

Victor makes great valve cover gaskets. A local Carquest can order them.

You can use GM or Felpro head gaskets.

I'd get ARP head bolts and lube... Torque 40 to 60 to 85lbs.

Remember if you got the original (GM stock) head bolts those are torque to yield so you need to replace them with new ones or go the ARP route and you wont have that problem if you need to take it all apart (hopefully not) in the future sometime.

I know Joe likes the GM headgaskets but they SUCK HIND TIT!!!

Couldn't handle a measley 10 of KR once. The Felpros take that all day long with just a wimper.

And don't waste the money on TTY headbolts if you're going to throw more than 16psi at it.

Get ARP hardware.

Thanks for the info! I got the arp bolts on the way. Gonna start tearin it down next week and am sure I will b needing some more help. Thanks again!

If you are going to run boost at 20+ psi stay away from these or Cometic's unless you have a built bottom end, good rods & forged pistons. Stock style head gaskets are your valve...if your tune goes south and you end up with bad knock they will vent out the side...good head bolts with steel RJC or Cometic gaskets will hold and send the problems down below. It's a lot easier and cheaper to change head gaskets then replace the bottom end or maybe even your block. I would however get the ARP bolts!
