headliner replacement

Has anyone replaced their original headliner with the newer fiberglass backed one? Also, how is the best way to remove and install new one.:boxed:
 
From what I have read the ABS plastic ones don't fit as good as the originals. I plan on recovering my original headliner board. The foam under the headliner material is deteriorating. If the original board is messed up when you take it out it could be fixed with fiberglass.

I have heard the same things about the ABS. I purchased replacement cloth from Classic Industries. I also heard that you can stengthen up the orig board with resin and fiberglass, esp around the cutouts where the seat belt retractors are. I havent started my project yet, but will be working on it during the cold months.
 
I have my headliner out now while the t-top/window weather stripping is being replaced. After seeing how easily the backing on mine broke apart trying to get it out, I don't see how you could re-cover it. I have one of the plastic back ones ready to go in.
 
I got the ABS plastic in mine ... if you go that route make sure you trial fit everything before you cut the openings for the seatbelts, light and the visors ...

You need to get it centered before cutting into it ... I also found it's a bit short overall length (front to back) so again trial fit and look at where the trim piece covering the hatch hinges sit as it will not properly cover this unless you push it back slightly but again then you might get a slight problem up front or around the t-top area ...

Overall I'm happy with mine but key to a good fit is time and trial fitting and adjusting then cut holes to hold it all in place.

Lay it out flat next to your OEM piece and measure then measure again and you will see where you might have some issues ....
