Hello. TTA 1119 here.

someone PM'ed me about selling the car "as is", before spending any time or money on it, and I responded that, yes, it made sense to sell it now before I spend money and time on it, whereby its going to start being more and more 'my car.' so, I also figured that if i'm going to make this offer privately, I might as well make it here for anyone interested. he asked for a number, and I put out a very reasonable (TTA.com & TGO.org only) figure of 17.5k. that is not going to be the eBay figure if it ever comes to that. and, the price will go up commensurate to the $$$ that goes into it from here.

as I said before, in the very near future (as soon as I have time, and it isn't wet outside, I will be looking to address the following issues, as they are the only things that don't quite match the otherwise near-perfect condition of the car:

  • shampoo the carpet (has very little wear, but a few spots that need to go.) if they cant be removed, I will replace the carpet.
  • Hawks fiberglass Aero Wing.
  • under-hood insulation. can anyone source this?
you can add to that, flushing and replacing of all fluids.

if I see substantial interest here, I will create a thread in the For Sale section with lots of pictures. I can also produce pictures of just about anything on the car that anyone needs to see. I will conceal or misrepresent nothing.

0.0 interest huh? okay.

changing the oil today, and want to get it cleaned up. having to go thru a ****ing hurricane getting this car registered. first the title wasnt filled out properly, and now the release of interest form was also filled out incorrectly. two weeks in a row of failed attempts to register the car. i might meet the guy halfway and just have him fill out the title, since he might have some TPI stuff (aluminum dist. cover and a plenum for me to port) to sell me.

BTW, the FRONT wheels are SUPPOSED to be deeper set (wider lipped) than the REAR wheels, right?

that goes against every fiber of my being. does anybody have two front wheels they want to sell?

wow! just noticed a similar situation on my Formula. wider lip (deeper dish) in the front. never noticed that before.

My Formula is the same. My plan is to run 4 fronts on my TTA. I am still waiting for the painter to return the gold lace rims to me. I polished the aluminum, but letting him re paint the gold.

didnt get nearly as much done today as i wanted to. started an oil change, done except for adding the oil. see a few other little jobs. i want to media blast the housing/cover deal that goes over the turbo charger. also see a need to media blast and repaint at least the bottom-inner air cleaner housing. its rusty in there - i think that air cleaner's been in there for a long time. i ordered a K&N filter from Summit. probably Monday-ish, going to order a Hawk's wing.

so, this isn't normal right? looks like somebody overtightened a drain plug or two to the extreme. i was not impressed with the drain plug that was on the car. i replaced it. we'll see if this one leaks or not. hopefully there wont be a need to replace the oil pan.

this is the new drain plug. the gasket is actually tightened down more on one side because of the depression around the drain hole - so thats not an illusion. i am going to fill it with some 5/30 conventional oil. the PO was running some super-thin full synthetic. with only 500 miles on the engine, i figured it would be better to break the engine in with some conventional oil, then switch to synthetic.

there's some kind of sensor located directly underneath the oil filter (resembles an O2 sensor). whatever it is, i felt it was best not to have it bathed in motor oil, hense the plastic bag.

the down pipe situation. there is a tiny bit of clearance from the frame. seems like less clearance from the exhaust, especially the collector flange. i'm wondering if that could be where it is making contact. i bought one new rubber motor mount today - they had to order the second one - arrives tomorrow.

had to close the shop doors. it started off nice today, but got cold as **** right about when this pic was taken.

Not sure about others, but when you say you got it for 10k and you will graciously sell it to one of us for 17.5K well... not sure about others, but that doesnt get me excited...

just so we're clear - it sounds like youre saying that there may be a moral issue with asking the TTA Community for technical advise on a car that i bought with at least some intention of selling for a profit. i could very well be mistaken, but that's the way your comment reads from my perspective, so i will just operate under that assumption for the moment until you clarify otherwise.

also, so we're clear - i was very up-front about the possibility of flipping this car from my very first post in this thread. i was on the fence then as i am now, but i figure i should at least be serious about selling the car for the right price.

and, so we're clear - someone PM'ed me asking what i would take for the car "as is." being a lousy businessman, i came up with a figure that i thought would be fair to me, the seller (considering what i paid for the car) and more than fair to a buyer. 17k + the five hundred it will cost me to get the car registered = 17.5k. in the spirit of being serious about selling the car, i figured i'd let everyone else in on this opportunity. in the meantime, i plan to continue to do those things to the car as if i am going to keep it. as far as my asking price: at the end of the day, it is a TTA with barely over 19k on the odometer, so i think that 17.5k "as is" is a fair price. not interested? fair enough. so we're clear, i'll probably put it up on eBay once i get the minor cosmetic things, and that one mechanical thing taken care of. if i can't get what i need for it, then its a sweet car, and i can give it a good home.

Well at least you are dealing with any issue's the car may have BEFORE you sell it and in the end it will be one less TTA that doesn't run right that few people know how work on... and THAT is a big issue with these cars... so i say rock on bro...ttarider

If you decide to sell, I think you will have better luck on ebay.

Looking at it from the buyers perspective with all the known facts, i would not want to be the veteran TTA forum member who made the new TTA forum member thousands of dollars richer from a flipped car.

No malicious intent, just my opinion. The car is probably worth what you want for it, but the problem is we know how much you paid. Bottom line is-its just business.

No moral issues here at all ... and the forum is open for anyone to join as you know (even if it took some tweaking to make sure you could post pictures etc. due to some forum settings on here).

We are a good bunch of people that all love to see these cars looked after, brought back to life, driven, raced, showed ... being low or high mileage ... stock or modified ...

Its a hobby for us and we help out and share our knowledge to keep these cars on the road or get a better E.T. or whatever the owners need help with.

All this goes way beyond just the cars we all love as many of us are into the history big time and love the stories from back in the day (way earlier than most people are aware of) with all the politics, costs and other concerns/issues before these cars could see the light of day ... much thanks to a very small group of people not giving up and many of them happy to share this insight with all of us to this day.

I would say all people on this forum has or have had a long term relationship with these cars, and the fellow hobbyists, and most of us would never part with them unless personal circumstances change or you just move on in life new interests.

Search is a great tool to use if you need to find most of your answers as they all been addressed more than once over the years most likely :)

The sensor you are talking about is the oil pressure sensor. Cover it good when you do an oil change. Fyi, oil filter is easier to remove from the top of the car then removing that bracket at the bottom... Just push the coolant hose to the side and remove.

DP is an older ATR 3" stainless steel. I am sure you will get a little false knock with that pipe. Nice pipe though.

Make sure when you replace the engine mounts you hook a tie down strap. Or else you will be replacing them again soon. Or get the poly mounts if you like them.

Good Luck,

Joe

that makes total sense. and FWIW, when it goes up on eBay, i will offer a nice discount to any TTA or TGO member.

fine. but dont go thinking that i have no passion for these cars. my first car was a Third Gen, and i cant see ever not owning a third gen. if you look at whats in my garage, and all my posts on TGO, you will see that i am not here as some tourist looking to make money off people. but since its a car that was bought (again) with some intention of flipping it - i would rather sell it to someone here, even if i can make a few more dollars selling it elsewhere. as far as the tech questions - this car hasnt been sold yet, and may never be. as of right now, its my car, and i dont want to **** it up.

Well if you are flipping it or not you deserve kuto's for giving a rats-ass as to the condition of the mechanical issue's, for that i say give you a pass on flipping the car when you said that in the beginning.... But i will bet that the first time that you put the smackdown on a mustang or ricer with a loud pipe you will be hooked...:guns:

drove a hundred miles to go see the previous owner today. had him fill out the title properly. he gave me a bunch of TPI stuff that i dont need [for my '89 Formula 350] to make the trip worthwhile. actually, it did come with an aluminum distributor cover and an upper plenum that i can port without having to take mine off in the meantime.

so i walked into the licensing place all confident... (this would be my third attempt to get the car registered.) and everything was going fine until the lady asked if she could just see my ID, to which i said "no problem," opened up my wallet and...:jaw: hmmm... i wonder where my driver's license went. i seem to vaguely recall some twat needing me to pull it out for some reason or another. but i have no idea where it could be. the standard operating proceedure is to buy a new license, and thats when the lost one turns up. realizing that this whole endevor to register this car had to be cursed at this point, she felt sorry for me and let me use my Costco card as sufficient identification. so the car is now registered, and the new title will take about three weeks. also bummed out because of no triple six plates.

no, but my 5.0 and my Formula 350 both have plates ending in 666. the first time it was coincidental, but then i figured, yes, i would like a certain uniformly menacing quality about my cars.
