Hello. TTA 1119 here.

gonna go down to Doghouse Powdercoating in Sequim. they let me use their media blaster for free when they're not using it. they are super cool.

[drain plug] still leaks. i am now in the market for an oil pan. i started an Oil Pan Wanted Thread in the Wanted Forum.

back at it today. trying a different drain plug gasket. will assess overnight leakage tomorrow. changed the fuel filter. media blasted the turbo heat shield - i didnt realize it was galvanized, so media blasting didnt exactly have the desired effect and i'm going to have to have it redone - that, or powdercoat or high temp paint, but i'm not sure what temperature those heat shields get up to. i also had media blasted and repainted the air canister and put a K&N filter in it. the hood insulation arrived today from Classic Industries. Aero Wing is supposed arrive Wednesday-ish. did some engine compartment cleaning.

picked my kid up from school in it, then drove thru the car wash to [wash it] and assess the T-Tops and windows for leaks. two or three drops per side. i actually have a complete, still in the boxes weather stripping kit that i bought years ago for an 89 Formula 350 w/ T-Tops project. but since the TTA didnt leak hardly, i dont know if new weather stripping would even make a difference. i also have new window motors that i bought for that Formula.

car ran absolutely fantastic. i still havnt addressed that false knock issue when you get on the gas though.

took a few pics with my phone.

Looks good.

Your false knock is probably coming from the 3" DP. Rubber engine mounts sag over time therefore your DP is probably touching the frame. There is not a lot of room down there. I would put new rubber engine mounts in the car and hook a tie down strap from the alternator to the hole opposite the crossmember on the bottom of the car. Do a search.

Other things it "could be"... You sure the valvetrain isn't setting off the knock?
Fueling issue...?

You can have the shield ceramic coated. Just pick the shade closest to stock.
Helps engine bay temps.

Nice stock appearing car...even down to the hoses. Keep it like that.

i am seriously considering having the Pace Car graphics removed.

Some like the graphics, some don't. My car has neither the door graphics or the windshield banner. I like the clean, sleeper look.

Car is looking fantastic. If I was a kid, that would have be cool as hell getting picked up at school in TTA.:)

I don't think they look that bad when you are standing beside it, but for some reason look a little goofy when it's going down the road, but i have never liked the windshield banner...

drain plug still leaks. not as bad, but still unacceptable to me. i bought a roll of very thick, cork gasket material and will try that out as soon as i have a chance to get back under the car. i really am trying to avoid having to take the oil pan off the car - especially because i dont have a lift, and it seems like it could be a frustrating job from off my back.

on an un-related note, i went with my neighbor today to go check out a car, an '03 Terminator Cobra. he ended up getting the car for $7K. it needs a little body work, has over 100K, and was not properly taken care of judging by the PO and the fact that his wife drove it primarily - and it was FILTHY...but it did run good.

anyway, i took him for a ride in the TTA afterwards and he was AMAZED. the power produced by that Third Gen just did not compute.

he's in 3rd grade, so, he knows its cool because i say its cool. then again, he had been requesting that i pick him up in it...

Did you get the correct thread drain plug? Should be a 1/2"-20 if I remember correct ... I would double check just to make sure as I had a similar issue once after replacing my drain plug and it was dripping slowly then I took it out and measure the threads and I think it might have been metric and screwed in correctly but was just a little bit loose in the threads so oil seeped through.

So I would definitely take it out and make sure it's the correct thread plug.

seems to screw in pretty good. I'll look into it though. I just got the drain plug that came back as 'for that car/engine' at the auto parts store.

you're saying it should be standard, NOT metric.

Yep standard not metric.

Mine also felt like it fit very good but turned out it was metric and hence not sealed correctly.

I would not trust the guys behind the parts counter unless you know them

not yet. today i picked up the car from the paint shop - i had the Hawks wing painted/installed. i also had them go ahead and repaint the front bumper as there were a couple chips here and there, plus some spots the PO tried to doctor up with touch up paint.

hopefully this weekend me and my buddy, who is an experienced mechanic, are going to try some measures to fix the oil pan without actually having to remove it.

also, i bought a carpet cleaner (my old one broke) and took it to the carpet with very good results. no need to replace the carpet. i posted up pics, post-carpet cleaning, at TGO. i will post them over here as well.

still have the new factory style motor mounts. will prolly see about sorting out the false knock in the near future - hopefully in conjunction with fixing the oil pan.

thanks for asking. sorry i havnt posted here in a while.

Some good progress there ! Can't wait to see the pics.

Hopefully you get the oil leak stuff sorted out as well; check that oil drain plug.

here are pics of the interior. i removed the seats and cleaned the entire carpet and detailed the entire interior of the car. i wanted to show the before and after pics, but unfortunately, the before pics which were posted on TGO have timed out or whatever (they're all little Xs now.) so here are the after pics that i took, and some pics i took today of the interior and the new wing.

oil leak is fixed. as it turns out, it wasn't the surface of the oil pan that was warped, but the oil drain nut (that receives the oil drain plug) was at an "off" angle, so the drain plug would go in at an off angle which would undermine its ability to seal properly. this was particularly strange given that there was no external damage (dents or scrapes) on the exterior of the oil pan. anyhow, using a series of shade tree techniques, we were able to straighten the angle of the plug somewhat, but not completely. then, we wrapped the threads of the drain plug with thread tape. after running for several minutes and sitting for 24 hours there is not one drop under the car nor is there anything forming on or around the drain plug. while I would have liked to have been able to report a more glamorous solution than thread tape, fixed is fixed.
