Hello. TTA 1119 here.

I'm interested in replacing the stock muffler with a Walker Dynomax muffler. Can somebody help me out with a PN?

Also, i've noticed that the GM muffler thats on the car is connected to the intermediate pipe via clamp, but the two tail pipes are welded on. Is that the normal "stock" conciguration?

anywhoo, not much input on the muffler. i went with the Dynomax 17266. it actually doesnt sound that much different than the original muffler. maybe punching out the cat-converter would make a difference.

car won car show today. big local car show - about a third of a Walmart Parking lot (Sequim Irrigation Festival.) "Best 1980 Thru Present Car."

People that know cars know what these are. I have found that alot in the past. So the general public still don't know what they are.:D

Welp, after one attempt at selling this car on eBay, I've basically decided to keep it and try to sell off my 89 LX Mustang instead. out of all my cars (4), I find that the 5.0 Mustang w/AOD is just the least interesting, even if getting rid of it will transform mine to an "all Firebird garage."

since it needs the rear diff serviced, I went ahead and got an aluminum (TA Performance 1802) diff cover. am also having the transmission flushed, prolly next week. will also make an attempt at fixing the Down Pipe to Frame false knock, starting by installing new rubber motor mounts.

I am also thinking of replacing the catalytic converter with a straight thru pipe because I have heard/read so many people here talk about it - it gave me the impression that there is more to be gained from doing this than on a normally aspirated car. is this the case? or would it be just as well to leave the hi-flow converter that it has intact.

also, since I'm going to be driving this car, I will have to have tunes. this means a full on stereo system w/ modern head unit. does anyone know how the steering wheel controls and power antenna will affect the installation of a new head unit. I am fine with leaving both the steering wheel controls and the power antenna disconnected and inoperable (down position for the antenna). just not sure if they pose some other issues.

and i'll also be having the windows tinted at 35% (the legal one). darker for the T-Tops.

Not a bad thing.

There is some sort of adapter for non orig head units to get the steering wheels controls to work, called a PAC JACK or something like that. Some guys on here have done it and can probably give you more info. I have a toggle switch under the dash that keeps the antenna from going up everytime you start the car, also a thread on here how to do that. I play CD's when driving with a Jensen unit, my steering wheel controls are not hooked up and I always leave the antenna down.

It just needs a 5 speed swap.

My truck had an aftermarket stereo and steering wheel controls that worked. I later discovered when replacing the stereo that it had a PAC unit in it. It plugs into the wiring harness on the bottom of the steering column, then uses the radios remote control mechanism to communicate to the PAC unit…so it works using the radios remote function, so be sure your aftermarket radio has a remote control capability. I'm assuming that is how most other units work, so you may want to investigate that further.

Okay. I actually dont see myself ever using the steering wheel controls anyway. Feels unnatural to me. If the new unit comes with an adapter, i'll hook it up. But i'll be just as well off leaving disconnected whatever goes to the steering wheel.

Is deleting the cat convrtr worthwhile as a performance upgrade/sound enhancer ( as in, more so than on a naturally aspirated car?

Only if you don't have to pass a visual, if everything is stock though it's not going to make much of a difference.

I just reread the start of this thread ( been a yr) it really depends on your goals, every mod has it's pros and cons and this one would have a stronger smell coming out vs a cat, it's a fine line so again it depends on your personal taste.

No visual/emissions/or safety checks in my state. Car has 206/206 cam, 3" THDP. Car is stock other than that. Might do some small mods like Turbo Tweak chip/injectors in another year or so.

If you want to give it a real kick in the ass, do the chip @injectors along with Juilo's alky inj; you can even leave the stock turbo with meth.

Agree with Robert. And your in a great position with no emission testing in your area, you have THDP already so get a dump pipe with an elec 3" cut-out.

Down the road you can step up to a simple bolt on bigger turbo and really haul arse. It's a win win!

when I replaced my cat with a test pipe I noticed a power increase all of the sudden the tires brake loose now it never did that when I had the cat on and it also gives it a throatier sound
