How to break in motor

OK so car 365 has the new stroker motor and I just recently road tested it. Runs great!! I have got a total of 115 eeeeeeasyyyyyyyy miles on it. Not even into boost when a mustang with flames past me. I am not tuned yet so no boosting.

My question is how many of these easy miles before getting into boost.

I spoke to the builder and he said drive 500 miles on the break in oil and then change it. He did not seem to think boost was much of a factor. He didn't think I should wot at 99# boost right off the bat but he didn't have any hard rules to follow.

What do you guys think?? I am not gonna boost until car is tuned and am going to tune slowly by slowly increasing boost and use a power logger.

Everyone seems to have a different opinion but thats just guys around here not turbo buick guys.

Thanks

Jarred.

He's right. Put about 300-500 miles on it and change the oil. I wouldn't consistently beat the crap out of it right of the bat, but don't be afraid of giving it WOT once you have it tuned. If anything is going to break it's going to happen in about the first 50 miles. At 500 miles when you change the oil go back and adjust the valve lash, and then do both again after another 1000-1500. Just remember, most engines never see any "break in" period and they live just fine. Racing motors go straight to the dyno and then to the track and only see WOT and factory engines go in vehicles driven by people who have no idea what they're doing.

For what it is worth, our LS2 is going from the crate, to the engine, starting up and driving it onto a trailer, warmed up on the dyno then within 3 miles it will be WOT on the dyno with 12ish PSI.

And Jared is right with his assumption. Corvettes are also WOT from the start on their chassis dyno in BG.

It is a billet roller cam
I am going to put some more easey miles on over the next two weeks and on the 25 I am getting teh wideband welded in so I can start tuning. Perhaps I'll change the oil at that time too if there is 500 miles.

Getting into power (and boost) will help seat the rings. I do not do long break ins on my cars, by 115 miles I'd have been to the track already lol, never had a problem but then thats just me and I agree with Jared - if it's gonna break then its gonna break. Just change the oil often early on to get any new engine junk out of it and have fun with your new motor :)

Joe Gibbs break in oil is going in the motor, changing it after the 1st dyno pull, changing it at 50 miles, then I will wait till 500 miles.

Overkill? ya, but what is $50 on the time and money you spent on the new motor...

Flat tappet cam break-in aside. It's my understanding that the bearings are "broken in " within 2-3 seconds.

Rings? that's a subjective opinion too. I "seated" my rings in the first 10 miles by keeping it in 2nd and gentlty rolling it up to speed (45-55) and then off the pedal to let the car decelerate . I did this a few times and never looked back.

Now, I get my break-in oil out much sooner, like after 50-60 miles or an hours run time. Then it's on with the show.

Well since I don't have a flat tappet cam I'm not following any specific cam procedure. I now have 145 easy miles. I plan to continue easy driving until I get my wideband hooked up. Then tune and go. The car feels very different than before or my other cars. Can feel motor vibration through the steering wheel. I think there is so much vibes bc of the HR mounts and spohn Xmember and torque arm.

The torque arm will do that even more so then the HR mounts.
