I was considering the TTA on Ebay but...

The miles scare me and it is far from original. My personal opinion is the TTA was only made one year so I don't understand why people mod them to the tee. It's an awesome collectible car. You can make a Pinto run 12's for alot less money. If I get one it will have to be close to original. Hopefully one will come up for sale with low miles soon.

Ebay Item number: 200064512765

TTA is a Great Collector Car. Wish you luck. I would have gave my left nut, right hand and either pinky toe for it. Instead I waited 7 years to find the one I wanted. Best Cars on the PLANET !! Have a Great Day.[/quote]

You waited seven years to find a TTA? I like your enthusaism but what makes it the best car on the planet. Do you mean for the money? I used to have a 86 GN (midly modded) and know I drive a 2000 vette (stock) and it's awesome but not by any means the best car on the planet!!! How long have you had it and how many miles have you put on the beauty? Have you ever been in a Vette? I know it is fast but how does the ride (comfort level) and handling differ? I plan on using the TTA as a weekend warrior. I raced a TTA (mildly modded) and he kept up pretty good in the double digits.

Hi, Yes I love the Corvette. But, I will take the Metal Version "the TTA" for thousands less. Not a big fan of the fiberglass however I like the style. My friend has a LS1 6 speed 99 vette. I know GM did there homework. As for the GN, I like that too! But I think the LC2 was designed to be in a aero dynamic car like the TTA. I know a guy who has a 84 GN. His is a garage queen. Very Nice.
This is just my opinion. Also, love the Gold Cross Lace Rims with the INDY flag and Turbo emblem found on the TTA. STELLAR !! Thank You.

That's cool. But my question was since you have been in both what do you think handles better and is more comfortable. I have read that the TTA suffers from the normal squeeks and low quality interior and ride which pledges most early model T/A's. I have ridden in a 1990 Formula which had the upgraded suspension but it road like crap with only 42000 on the clock and the interior looked like cheap plastic. Is the TTA any better? Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for the fast reply. Turbo Joe TTA you seem you be taking offense to my questions. I know the cars are in two different catagories. First off, you can get a used 2000 Vette for around 18,000 dollars not 25,000 unless it is totally mint. Secondly, I know my Vette is a smooth and nimble riding car but I simply asked if the TTA was since I am thinking about buying one and I have never been in one. Also I wasn't comparing engines, believe me I know the difference between the two:) You still haven't answered my question about the interior build quality. Is it cheap or better than the 3rd gen T/A? I also have a winter rat, a 2002 Accord.

PS: I order the Prime Rib

No offense taken. I only buy MINT vehicles though. I actually like the interior "leather". My car rides fine. Great Launch. I have not heard any squeaks on mine yet. I think it is a excellent car. There is only 1555 made. They are not a dime a dozen like the rest of the GM's. I bought it to be a Investment. The stock market is unpredictable and the housing market sucks where I am from so...

If you are thinking of keeping it as an investment, Why are you thinking about racing your friends 99 Vette. I wouldn't be racing and abusing an investment.

I have the collect. auto ins. on it. I can only drive up to 1000 miles a year. One or two races would not hurt. NADA on mine is 19000. Not bad for a 20 year old GM. I am use to Toyota and Nissans. That is all I use to buy for a while. Vettes are plentful around here. You should have seen the look from Down Town Rochester when I cruised through with the TTA. Buy one and you will love it. Couple cheap mods and you will bury that Vette.

Also I don't think the TTA is the Metal version of a Corvette??? Two totally different designs from the frame up?

I think so. Anyways, no offense if I am going to spend 20000-25000 I would buy one of the Twin Turbo Supra's. But Vettes are neat!

Have a great night krush79. You are a Master Debater.

Wow!!! Did you blew a spark plug. I am a Master Debater? I am not debating anything and just asked a question? You seem like a bitter individual!!! I simply asked about the interior and handling of the TTA other than the leather seats which you can get in any car. All you keep saying is the car rides fine. I expected more for a potential car collector. Let me guess and say you are about 28 years old, live at home with your mom, a skinny little guy with a big man complex, have only a high school education, a criminal record, and work at the local 7-11. Am I close? Why are you so bitter?

Everyone else has been a big help so far!!! Can anyone else chime in and help me Turbo Joe is a dude!!!! Turbo Joe is a discrace to your forum guys. You should kick him off the forum for his ignorance. I bet he doesn't even own a TTA!!!!

PS: 6 plus forced induction can keep up with a normally aspirated 8.

89 Turbo Trans Am

Kush,

Sounds to me you looking for a mint Turbo T/A, just keep saving your pennies and be patient. You wont regret having the only ever V6 Trans Am and the quickest. I drove my first over 70k miles and handled daily duties very confortably. I drove an 86 and 99 vette and still found myself getting another TTA. Out all my current rides, the TTA takes the cake..hope this helps. Good Luck.

Roy

Thanks for your help tta900!!! It's nice to talk with someone who has a clue. Not someone who only says the ride is fine and talks about being able to order prime rib instead of chicken. What a moron!!!!

Hopefully something will pop up in the near future. I'll keep ya posted. Right now I have about 13,000 dollars which I can use in my account toward a weekend car. I have to save some for emergencies. If you see one could ya let me know. Thanks !!!!

Kush,

I think you need to ease up on Joe, take a step back, and count to 10. I'll agree with you that he didn't give you the details you wanted but that's no reason to start flaming on him, especially being that your a newbie here too.

To go into more detail here's my response to your question. The TTA is a car from the late 80s, not a C5 or even a C4. If you look at the C4 Vette (I test drove a '96) it rides more comfortably and will handle better given the IRS. Crawling in & out of the C4 was a different story. Do the TTAs rattle & squeak? For the most part, yes. You're talking about a car that is pushing 20 years old and a UNIBODY, not a frame-on car. I added subframe connectors to my car and it helped a bit but you're not going to have the same build quality as a modern car. Also, with age certain repairs become necessary and sometimes after these repairs are done the car isn't as "tight" or "rattle-free" as it was before. As far as the interior goes it was very well equipped...for 1989. Much better than the Camaros of the day. Is it equivalent to a C5? No, different cars altogether. I've been in tons of C5s and C6s, great cars but comparing the TTA to your C5 is like comparing your C5 to the C6 Z06. Just understand they're different but both great in their own respect. When you say you want to use the TTA for a "weekend warrior" what exactly are your plans? Some people drag race, others road race, and some street race. If you're interested in the car start comparing it to other TTAs and chill out with the finger pointing.

kush79,
I agree with Ron it is a better comparison of the C4 Corvette to a TTA. The technologies used then were more in line. The ride on all the cars has improved a bunch in the 18 years.

The miles on the car you are looking at are on the high side, but would make a grat project car and the price is right. If you want lower miles then you will have to pay more. Stock original low mileage cars cost more than modified cars. These cars do not need very many mods to go really fast. And many of these mods cannot be seen. I personally like the my cars with low miles and in stock trim. Mainly due to the fact with my kids consuming most of my time these days, I do not have the time to do restorations any more!

I have both the hardtop and t-top TTAs. They are both ultra low milage examples. The Hardtop bay far is tighter than the T-Top. Unfortunately they only made a total of 39 hardtops (24 Leather/15 Cloth), so they are bery hard to find. The best way to stiffen up the body flex on a TTA with T-Tops is to install sub frame connectors.

Some day I would like to add a Z06 C6 Corvette to my collection, but it will not be at the expense of my T/As. I have been into the cars since I bought my 1978 and never looked back.

Hey krush79, I make more Money than YOU and your MOTHER together.
And if you were here right now I would slap you around, you little sissy.
You said you were in a 90 Formula. If you had any knowledge about cars, you would know the interiors are very similar except for the Turbo gauge and the Leather.
Bitter, only with fools like you.

I am sorry guys for flaming on TurboJoe, but look at his last reply, pretty lame and childish. I will just ignore his posts and listen to the experts. Thanks again guys!!

Dave, I would love to get my hands on that 74 Trans am. Awesome looking car!!!

Every car has it's good and bad points.
Kinda hard to compare old to new.
Same with comparing an older Vette to a newer Vette.
In 1989, these cars (our Turbo YTrans Ams) were able to outperform the same year Vette.
To me, the Vettes are all plastic interior too. Just like our cars.
All cars seem to be.
As for slamming people on this site because of their opinions, isn't a good way to get people to help you. Same with people here slamming back.
Maybe if everyone steps back, takes a few minutes to calm down, and then post again, things like this won't happen.
I have driven some Vettes, raced some Vettes, both won and lost, with my car, and all I have to say is, I will keep my car.
But not once, have I slammed Vettes.
Nor have I attacked you or other people on this site.
This site has had real good luck in keeping stuff like this from getting out of hand. Unlike other sites.
I hope everyone can post and ask and answer each other.
This site doesn't get tons of use, like other sites, and sometimes it may take awhile to get an answer.
