Had time to kill waiting on part's for my turbo-D/P swap and thought i would strip and repaint the intercooler, i was looking at some old thread's on here that talked about #'s etched on the bottom, when i looked at mine i can see them clear as day (1660925, 10-12-88 ) i will post a pic later today. BTW, i was thinking about taping off the fin's and leaving them bare when i paint it, any thought's? ( maybe work better? )

Hey Robert I just did my IC as well quick repaint, and a cleaning. Taped off the plate on top, and I didn't paint the fins. Just my thought, no paint cool better?

This is the procedure I did to clean my IC last year, the lacquer thinner works great, run it thru it and flushed it 4 times with it and then ran lots of water thru it and let it air dry for 24 hrs. I even found a can of GM top engine cleaner for the throttle body.

Exactly what I used some lacquer, rinse and dry. Got it all together just waiting to start her up.
Robert you painting a gloss black or flat?

And I used Eastwood's Radiator Paint, Satin Black. I never did like a real glossy look to the intercooler.

Just what I did agin it might be good might not be .... washed mine out first with gm top end cleaner let it soak for a day. Washed it out then put simple green in it an washed it out. Taped up the stickers after I smootheded out a duttneck an had it welded on ... Just to let a friend borrow it on his t-type wich got stolen 2 weeks later

I stripped the ic and used black tractor paint from Tractor Supply.

Holds up well after 3 years.. I didn't paint the fins either. Port and polished the neck too.

Before I painted it with 1200 degree engine paint flat black

Here are a few pic's of the IC and new te62 76ptrim .63ar turbo i got from Bison, you can see the #'s on the bottom of the IC, also the eng. pic look's like a EGT sensor in the header pipe which to me looks like a big obstruction to air flow? With the PL don't know that i need that or a WB...

Thanks for sharing Robert, love them pics. Looks like you got more work on your hands then me bud.

For cleaning it out, I just slopped some gas through it till it was all coming out clean then blew some air with the compressor through it to evap it all out.
It probably about time to do it again on all my cars..too bad they don't put a drain plug in the bottom to keep you from having to take it all the way off :)

Great pics!! Yeah after a coupe times I can rock a gas tank in and out in about an hour, not counting the fumbling around to get the pump out, that's another 15-20 min. Also if you ever go deeper Rich is an self proclaimed expert on changing head gaskets lol

Ya that's why in my race car I have an external pump, much easier to change if need be, only problem is paying for a new pump!!!!

Okay, finally got this white $itch together and running, gonna take it out tomorrow and record it's first log and run with new turbo @ D/P combo, here are a few pc's; Btw this is first P/L run as well, i also thought about a d/turn on the dump as well but this will be tight as the pc show's....
