Insurance

Just wondering if anyone out there is using a company called Mercury for their auto or other insurance. Just got a quote from them that is less than half of what Allstate is upping my premium to. Why my rates are going up, I have no idea? They should be going down.

TIA

I have my TTA insured with Grundy Worldwide $300 per year full coverage no deductable...current replacement value $22,000...no mileage restrictions. Also have the Fiero insured with them as well...all my other cars & home are through State Farm.

Had State Farm but never will again. Also not fond of Progressive after they screwed me over once. Just looking for some new alternatives.

I have been insured with State Farm for 33 years...no problems but they did not have anything for collector cars that made me feel comfortable. Check out Grundy http://www.grundy.com/ ...I have had my TTA with them for the last 4 years...they even raised the value of the car the last 2 years. Put the Fiero on about 2 years ago. Never been with Progressive.

I spoke with a Grundy agent at a car show this summer. Plan to put the TTA, the GTA and the 300ZX TT with them next month. Collector insurance is a much better deal than going through mainstream insurance - but you cannot use your collector car as a DD and you may need to give them evidence of a regular DD car that you use so that the collector cars are used strictly as pleasure vehicles.

Guess I should've mentioned this but it's in my sig...I don't own a TTA anymore, nor any other toys at this point. :thumbdwn: This is just for my DD.

BTW, I think picking an insurance company is basically just picking the lesser of the evils. Like Chris Rock says, it should be called "In case sh*t happens."

And, FWIW, State Farm is only interested in low risk drivers. If you stray from that profile for a sec, they'll drop you faster than a hot potato!

Is it any wonder every year when the Fortune 100 list comes out that there are so many insurance companies in the top 25! What a racket!

Ok, venting done. (Steps down from soap box)

yea car insurance is nothing more than legal descrimination, they always want to rape the young drivers when they havent done anything wrong

My insurance claims
1. Totalled my first car at 18 because a man in his 30s pulled right out in front of me (prob someone paying much less for insurance because he's older and that makes him safer right?)

2. Ran over a deer just hit by a truck ahead of me while at night, keep in mind theres a fence on one side and a cement median in the middle and I was in the passing lane beside another car. How did it even get there? Theres no way to avoid that. Perhaps old people don't drive at night, use the highway, or pass anyone, so that makes them safer right?

3. Rock Chipped windshield from a truck (Perhaps if I was an old man I wouldnt take the highway and that wouldnt happen right?)

No offense to any of you that are old, but your not better drivers. If anything as you get older your reflexes are slower, your weaker, and your sight isn't as good, hardly what I would call "safer". I've never had an accident that was my fault why should I pay for the mistakes of others which in my case every single time was caused by the actions of an older, supposedly safer driver. Its complete bullshit.

Ok, so I've been reading some reviews (more like horror stories) about Mercury. The low rates are nice but might have to pass.

Is anyone out there using Liberty Mutual for their DD?

I have The Hartford for my Daily drivers/Home for a discount. I shopped around for a while & got the best rate from them, and they threw in road side assistance/rental car coverage.

I'm using Heacock Classic for the TTA & DeLorean, my premium was cut in half switching to them, coming from Hagerty in witch whom I liked, but just to pricey to stick with. So far so good with Heacock.

Man, you gotta let go of your anger at the "man"

see?? just own it...and move on.

Point is the "supposed" more dangerous younger driver didn't cause the accident, the one paying the cheap insurance rates because he is in his 30s and married did cause the accident.

After a decade of having a squeeky clean record and being gouged for 1200-1800 a year for the past 10 years I have a right to be angry.

Well get used to it...we all went through it and guess what? You'll be paying for it for a long time.

Like when I first got my TTA at the age of 22 and my State Farm agent told me $800 for the year. This compared to a new '95 Formula that he quoted at $2400 a year. When I got my first bill it was over $800...for 6 months! No "Sorry, we screwed up." Talked to the underwriters and they essentially said that's the rate, take it or leave it. Nice customer service.

In the end they're all big business and the bottom line is making money, NOT customer satisfaction!

I know what you mean,it seems to be one sided, but it's probably not all "rainbows and unicorns" on insurance companies balance sheets either.

Think of the millions of fraudulent whiplash suits alone they have paid out.

It's like everything in life...there is another side to the story...

Besides...corporation bashing is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Anyone with stocks,401K's etc. probably is partially vested in these corporations and our retirement, etc. depends on thier success, like it or not.

EDIT: My job requires me to drive about 2700 miles per month. Therefore I see alot of drivers and thier driving habits. Bad drivers I witness are mostly either under 25,or over 65, and I would venture to say that accumulated crash statistics back that up. And gender specific, the under 25 bad drivers are generally male and over 65 are both equal.

I'm sure you've heard this about young men..."young,dumb and full of cum"...it's true...they generally take risks older men don't.

Who would you lend your TTA too? a 16 year old or a 35 year old? Which one has better odds of wrapping it around the tree?....so who is going to pay the higher premium? Ins. Companies can't take a wait and see approach, neither would you if you had to lend one of them your car.

Don't sweat it though....one day,if you're lucky, you'll be old men like us and pay $860 a year for 4 vehicles.

$200 a year. Full coverage. Valued at $25K. No mileage restrictions.

I got the Old Man Special package deal. Pretty sweet ehh...:wheelchair:

I'm 19 and pay $1200 a year for full coverage on my daily driver. No claims at all. When I get a rock chip I pay to get it fixed. Why the hell would you claim that? When I turn 25 I'll pay less. Accept it. Part of life. Move on.

Am I a better driver than my 87 year old grandpa? Yes...am I a better driver than my 54 yr old dad? Well I'll let you know in 35 years. He has had one ticket and no wrecks in his entire driving career. Not to mention he knows his way around a tremec way better than I can at the moment.

JasON

Tta and gn are insured with some classic car company.

I agree, I drive a lot as well in more countries I can count per year and I see the same ... young "stupid" drivers taking a chance and have no judgement or sense of speedlimits etc .... after that is all the female drivers in their 4x4's taking kids to school here in the UK ;)

As mentioned we all been there and been punished and the insurance companies are businesses and one reason premioums are so high these days is the fact that people been screwing them all these years on claims that should not been paid out in the first place ...

I just ran my numbers with Grundy. The T/A was about $80 cheaper, but My Bee was about $180 more. I'm currently with Hagerty agreed value of 20K on the T/A.

No offense taken.....
I'm 43 and I've paid my fair share of high premiums. Really hard to have a performance car when you are young. My 5.0 when I was 26 was $1,000 for six months. I paid it off and parked it. Now that I'm older I'm pleased that my DDs are not to much but I have 5 cars to insure which gets pricey. I've not had a claim since I was 19 years old. The only one ever and it sucks. I'd like to get soemthing for my money. My toys are insured through Hagerty. I like the agreed value. I've seen too many people having to argue about the value of their hot rod with the regular insurace company.

Very nice Super Bee !!!

Did you call Grundy or just do it on the web site...the reason I ask is they give you an additional discount for multiple cars. If you didn't I would definitely give them a call. When I started my policy with Grundy 4 years ago they started it with an agreed value of 20K...the last 2 years they have bumped it up 1K each year...currently agreed value is 22K.
