intake pipe location?

has anyone experimented with locating the filter outside if the engine bay? what have you guys done? thinking about locating it to the nose somehow.

imo, the best place to put the air filter... stuff the end inside the inner fender but still keep the air filter visible in the engine bay. So maybe quarter or half the air filter inside the fender. Don't start cutting holes...

About 21 years ago, I removed the driver side road light out (Don't care about driver lights) and snaked a dryer hose from that area up to the K&N filter. If I place a fan in front of the road light area you can feel the air blowing up to the K&N filter easily. That was one of the first mods I made. Cool air into the engine bay at the very least couldn't hurt. So I left it. Since then, I made better bolt-on mods that made a more of an effective difference, but I have yet to care about having road lights so I left it that way.

what about routing it to the nose?

There's lots of factors regards to airflow, velocity, turbulence, temperature etc that all play in so cool/cold air is good but depending on how you route it you will affect any of the above which might have a negative effect.

Lots of advanced calculations are done to come up with the designs we see when you look at either stock setups (which are a compromise) and the aftermarket ramair/coldair kits out there.

And of course the longer ducting you have the lower airflow you get which cant really be good (and more noise). And for a turbo the air you pump in will get varmed up when the air is compressed hence the intercooler on there to lower the aircharge after the turbo; so lowering the intake air before the turbo just slightly wont make a difference at all unless you drive in very cold (winter?) weather so the temperature difference is very large then you possibly lower the temperature after the turbo but hard to say.

With that said, IMO...alky/meth injection would be a better solution than even the biggest air scoop imaginable. Then there is always a bigger intercooler.
