Intercooler Questions

:cool1:couple of intercooler questions. When repainting the stock intercooler with eastwood radiator paint should you use the satin or the gloss black?
Also when replacing the intercooler tag, how do you remove the old tag?

Mike, that is the tag I had them reproduce years ago for me

I stripped the intercooler with paint stripper then used the eastwood radiator gloss black paint on mine. Others with very low milage TTAs could chime in and let you know if they originally were gloss or more satin.

The old tag just use a razor blade and carefully remove it, just don't dig into the intercooler as it's aluminium.

I would like to use the original numbers on the old tag, but they can't be read. I suppose I could make numbers up,lol. Also when putting the new tag on what type of glue shoud I use to withstand the heat?

id prolly use the lower gloss . Make sure you clean it out good before u paint it.

The repro tag got the correct part number on it, but for the serial number you would need to make this up ... some say that when you strip the old paint off there's a engraved number on the same surface where the tag sits that is the serial number ... on mine there is some sort of number but could not work out exactly what it was but you might want to look once you stripped yours and you might be lucky to find the serial number for the tag.

It should be a satin sheen. I had a few intercooler powder coated. They come up real nice then. There is also a satin black power that matches nice. Every time I spray paint something in these engine bays it only seems to last a few years. The repro tags from Mark have double sticky on the back side. Should be fine to keep it in place. I have one of his tags on my 86 and 87 GN's. The 87 has been on there for sometime now no problems.

Paint! I don't need no stinking paint. HA! Actually I had mine polished. My thoughts were I would get better heat transfer and believe me, in south east Texas, that,s very important.
