My car had a pretty bad oil leak, thinking the worst, rear main seal as it was coming from the back of the oil pan.upon close inspection with the car up on my lift,it was perfectly clean and dry on the back of the engine, inside the tranny bellhousing, and you could even see directly under the crank sticking out of the block that it was not leaking.to my finding, looks to have been fixed already, but whoever did the job should be slapped.
They used a rubber gasket and flooded both sides of it with black RTV.The gasket, was splitting apart and was the culpret for the leak.Great,I don't have to mess with the rear main cap,but still had to lift up the engine to get the pan off.
After cleaning up and getting the pan ready to be put back on,I was cleaning up the engine now and for whatever reason started looking up inside. As I asked this question in another post about these cars having roller cams,as advertised in the brochures, was told no they did'nt,were supposed to,but don't as the cost was going to be to high.
Well.........my car does!!!!! Is this the situation, they started to,and then said to scrap the idea of all of them having roller cams,as my car is any early build,#255,and at some point later they got reg cams left in them?
My car is a low mile car,15k,completely all bone stock, never modified, and upon close inspection, besides PAS,noone has ever tamperd with the front of the engine to do a cam change,NTM,that would be farther down the list of mods after doing a larger turbo, injectors, exhaust, etc. You would not just do a cam change,IMO.
Now,has anyone else, low or higher # builds recall peeking inside theirs to see what was in theirs?
Also, right on the back of the cam,you can see cast right into it,the word COMP CAM on it.As we know,GM does not m,ake their own rollers, even for their new cars, and was this outsourced by PAS for the TTA engines?
This would not suprise me if the early cars got them and the later ones did'nt as we know how the GNX's were supposd to have ported and polished heads, and only the first less than 100 I recall did,and then that was stopped.
