Is this the stock mass air flow sensor?

Is this what the factory mass air flow sensor should look like? I took my car to a local mechanic who does a lot of work on Grand Nationals and he said it is not the one found on the GN's. He asked me to confirm here if this is the type that would have originally come on the car.

no that's not the stock MAF and I believe all the replacement ones from auto part stores look exactly the same as the originals. The TTA came with the same MAF as the GN so your mechanic probably has one sitting around that he might be able to help you out with.

Don't even bother with locating a correct MAF, they are generally flaky. Get an LT1 or LS maf and a translator and never look back.

I'd stick with a stocker, they may be hit or miss but if you have a good one they seem to last quite a while. The car looks mostly stock since it still has the stock MAF pipe, no need for a translator.

I think those ones with the skinny center were ones used on the early GN's maybe even the hot air cars. They will work but not good. Another thing is someone may have rebuild it and just used that case. I've seen that happen a lot as well. LS1 LT1 is the way to go if you dont' want to worry about it ever again but like Jared said stock looking ones can last a bit.

I had a friend buy 3 reman MAF's from GM some years ago. Sat around for years as he bought them for just a back up. When he finally needed one for his GN he found both were bad in the box! So you never know! I use to tap the one on my GN to make it work when it got weird. That's always one way to know it's on the way out! :)

WS6 is right if you plan to mod the car. 72firebird is right if the car is stock.

As I understand it the stock MAF can measure enough air to supply roughly 400hp but any more than that is inaccurate. It all depends on your future plans for the car.

Good luck!

I'm running fine and probably a just few more than 400 hp. :eam:

I wont change it until it fails. When it does I'll go the cheap LT1 route. The TT chips locks it in at 255 g/s anyway so it doesnt matter at WOT.

Please describe the "cheap LT1 route". I spoke to a mechanic today who said one of the newer digital units (I think he said LS1) with a translator would be about $400.

Could someone supply the GM number for the mass airflow sensor? Also, are there multiple sensor numbers that fit the TTA?

I've gone thru 3 sensors and each one has presented it's own performance issues. :censor: From reading this thread, it looks as if it's a crapshoot to get one that functions properly.

Any help would be appreciated!
