Buying a gta and the orig owner can't find keys. All is legit but the question I have is ....... Is the ignition key security chipped or not?

Thanks

The owner said he was sure it was a vats key as well but the dealer says according to them not. Go figure. Has anyone changed one of these about how much $ ?

I had some keys made but I had the original keys. Had it done at a Buick dealer 3yrs ago. The vats key was around 20 something and the door key was around 5 dollars.

If you don't have the vats key, expect to pay much more!

It could be 1 or the 15 diff. vats chips for these cars. Certain locksmiths could help you out or a dealer might help you out. Better have vin #, registration and driver licence for all this, I had to have them when I got my keys made.

I THINK EVERY TTA OWNER SHOULD HAVE A 2ND SET OF KEYS AND THEY SHOULD ALSO KNOW WHICH OF THE 15 VATS KEYS THAT THEIR TTA USES.

I know which one mine uses, so it would make it easier,even with no keys!:yes:

Ended up going to dealership. They treated me decent. Ended up changing out ignition and burning 2 sets of keys. Total 350.00. Thanks for the suggestions fellas.

Holy crap, rape. I have a great parts department at my dealer.

They only needed the VIN and proof that you own it. Then they could cut the keys 4 you. Unless your switch was screwed up you only needed keys.
I had my dealer do the chip check and cut me 3 ign keys and 2 door keys for $50 bux.

The VATS Key has a resistor with 1 of 15 values.
The value can be checked with a DVM.

CODE
RESISTOR VALUE IN OHMS
1 = 402
2 = 523
3 = 681
4 = 887
5 = 1130
6 = 1470
7 = 1870
8 = 2370
9 = 3010
10 = 3740
11 = 4750
12 = 6040
13 = 7500
14 = 9530
15 = 11800
