Modern scan tool

It would be cool if someone came up with software/scantool that was compaible with our ecm that could be run via a Iphone or something similar that was easy to carry. Anyone doing this for the TTA?

they have stuff for the DSMs that run off a palm pilot, it's old school. I don't think it'd be very hard (way beyond me though), but we do have the scanmaster which is nice and small.

Consider your self lucky! Remember a head gasket is nothing more then a fuse for the engine! IF that didn't pop something might have went BOOM! Take some pics of the job so we all can see!

oh yes, its good that blew instead of something else. too bad its so much harder to get to than a fuse. so is that big black wire in the last picture the scanmasters? just kinda tucked in there?

actually the middle pic shows the wire. I soldered the gray wire off and used some high end audio cable I had laying around. It was half as thick and black so it made it easy to tuck away. You can see the wire in the middle pic only because I left it out to see where I ran it. After that pic I tucked it in behind the trim and you can't see anything. People will ask me if I ever hooked a scan tool up to the car and I have to point it out they don't even notice it there You can still see the turn signal indicator as well.

I mounted mine similar to Jims but I took and ran the wire between the dash and the hood pad there and then down around the AC ducting and then back pinned into the fuse box there is an accessory connection, then I grounded it to the support bar under the dash there is a grounding spot on there, and then ran a wire into the ALDL port. For under the dash I bought an RC car servo extension cable and cut it in half and then soldered one side to the wires inside the Scanmaster and shrink wrapped it and then I soldered extra wire length to the other side to go to all the connections that I mentioned and shrink wrapped them. The connector is small enough that you can push it in between the dash and the dash pad so you can remove the scanmaster and no one will ever know.

Here is the extension cable I believe, you can pick them up at just about any hobby store, just find something in a style you like. The wire on the scanmaster is an extremely small gage and they're low voltage so you don't have to worry about the size.

I have mine right next to the apillar. That way I can watch boost, knock, alky, and the scanmaster.

thatd probably be more convenient. but it would also probably not look as good as above the steering wheel on the underside of the dash.
