Motor Mounts

How fast do you want to go?

Stock mounts can be had just about anywhere for cheap.

But H& R parts and stuff has poly TTA mounts but aren't cheap...but high quality never is cheap.

But loosing the tie down anchor almost justifies them.

If I am going to do all this rebuilding, I might as well go beyond the relm of stock. I have some ideas I am thinking about. So the poly mounts might be the way to go.
 
Just buy the stock replacement mounts. Then use the tie down strap like Rich noted.

You can do a search on these boards on where to attach the strap.

Most will say, "Do it once and get the poly mounts". Believe me, you will not like the vibration with the solid mounts.

:lamo: I helped install them on a first generation Talon, 2 summers ago. Vibration was terrible.:thumbdwn: We ended up going back to stock. That's how I know.:fuckkk:

Jason, you are pushing over 500 rwhp right?. Have you had any issues with stock motor mounts and strap? DontKnow:

Talon isn't a TTA. our gn has poly mounts EVERYWHERE without an issue. So you're not comparing apples to apples.

Do I have a problem? Not really except the strap is f^cking ugly! It's a bandaids.

You can't tell me with solid mounts that there will be no noticeable vibration at low speeds.

FYI, if you had the strap in the RIGHT place, you would barely notice it.

Are the stock mounts just standard F-body 3.8 mounts?

I can't imagine mounts would be easy to get if they were unique to 1500 cars.
 
Rock Auto, Advance Auto... has the correct mounts. ANCHOR Part # 2627. You will need two right front mounts!

Ordered locally when I did my mounts. Actually ordered 6 mounts.lol I picked out the best 2 at the counter and just purchased them. Kinda like picking through pressure treated wood boards at 84 Lumber yard. I pick the ones I like. Hope this makes sense.

Both mounts (the OEM GM mounts that is) started out as the right hand mount then the left was machined down (one of the tabs sticking up) most likely for some clearance however I looked at mine and not sure why they did that ... anyway besides this they are identical ... rubber the same etc and as mentioned they both started as the same part number.

I run those Anchor mounts on mine (Right + Left) as well and have no clearance issues.

In the GN, no there isn't. I won't comment on the TTA since I haven't had them on that chassis yet. But I could sit here and armchair talk about how my girlfriends brothers roomates dad had a Honda Civic with a turbo that had poly mounts with no vibrations. Ya dig?

If you have a hook on the back of your alternator it is noticeable....

Advance auto has them for $19.95 in stock locally.


So for a little over $40 I can see before I buy, or for $6.95 each I can order a few of them and pick the best 2 to use.
 
I actually talked a H&R vendor in Ohio. He recommended at least one side. After I thought about it... I think a poly mount on the passenger side and stock replacement (noted earlier) with a strap on the drivers side might be a option. It will allow a little more movement and should decrease vibration if there is any.

I have no proof just a theory. :lamo:

I just bought my H&R mounts with the latest durometer hardness of 70. They push in like rubber and Paul said that any softer then they'd be rubber's durometer rating....so I'll let you know when I get this turd back together.

To speak to the issue of vibration, it seems to my untrained eye that the vibration that is transferred is more about the design of the poly mounts and not really the hardness of the poly itself. It's a much more solid design.

To speak to the single mount ....I wouldn't do it. I saw those GN's at BPG with one mount and the motor sights high on one side....it just looks goofy IMO.

I really never seen stock replacement mount and strap and poly mounts together even though some guys run this set up. Jason thought I saw this at the track, but I really didn't. I was just thinking....:lamo:

Rich noted the motor sits uneven and Jason said you could have downpipe issues with the one side solid mount (passsenger) and stock replacement/strap on the (drivers side). A solid mount would rasie the passenger side so I could see the downpipe issues....

Steve ran poly's on this bad asss Red 3rd Gen. maybe he could chime in about this experience on this platform.
