Need Edmonton TTA mechanic

Hey guys, I am in Edmonton Alberta Canada and my tta has a blown head gasket. I am not the guy to be fixing somethin like that. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in the Edmonton area that will be familiar with my tta motor?? My other option is to ship my car to Vancouver so my uncle can fix it, he does that stuff all the time on his GNX's, but no shipper will move a car that does not run. I am really stuck here guys, and need your advice. ....Pls help!!:boxed: Jarred.
 
Hey Duratys, I called Campbell and they will only work on the motor out of the car, so they referred me to Kartunes, a shop that fixes buick GNs all the time. Looks like atleast 2500 going down to tubes, but I just can't wait to get back in the tta, so I'll do whatever it takes.

THanks again for the hot tip on Campbell. I'll let ya know how it goes.

I happen to know that Jarred is expecting delivery of a 1,210 mile TTA from the USA soon ... And I've already told him that taking parts off that car to fix his busted one would not sit well for our relationship :-)

OH Mike don't you worry about your baby, I know 1130 is a keeper!! My broken tta has all aftermarket parts so I have all the origainal parts in my basement and I sure would not pay what I did for a parts car!!!! 1130 is to look pretty for photo ops.
 
2500...:shock: I think I'd try posting on www.turbobuick.com first and see if you can find someone on there who might be able to help you. Do you know what side it's on? If it's the passenger side it's not too bad, the drivers side would be a pain in the ass. Are you willing to consider just having someone experienced to some and help you? You could probably get it done for a couple hundred (giving the person a little for the help) if you did it yourself.
 
alot of ppl tell me to do it myself, but I have no tools, no experience and no time do it again if it is not done right the first time. Others warn me of imprtant sequnces on tightening the bolts depending on which gasket is used etc.

My uncle does GN's all the time but he lives in BC and would come help but again no tools. My garage has nice cars in it but no tools :(

I would enjoy getting involved and learning more about tta mechanics though.

Has anyone here done head gaskts themselves and can speak from experience ??? Advice is welcome
As of right now I have it going in to the shop on Friday, gonna have to tow it on a dolly, keep the new paint clean.

Do you have decent mechanical knowledge (know how an engine works and can turn a wrench)? If you do it's fairly easy to do. What side is it on? If it's passenger you shouldn't have any problems doing it yourself in my opinion by just getting a write up on it from one of the forums. A head gasket isn't as difficult as most people make it out to be, just make sure you read a good amount of threads from people who have done it and learn from their mistakes and what people suggest. I know with some cars they suggest spraying the gasket with copper sealer, and there is a certain sequence to tighten the bolts, just see if someone can scan in the GM repair manual for these cars and follow those instructions and follow the little tips and tricks suggestions you read online. With about 2 hours of research and a $100 box of tools from Sears you could probably have it done in a day and half taking your time and double checking stuff. Then you'd have a nice set of tools and more knowledge about working on the car.
 
Oh and if you do decide to do it yourself, take a lot of pictures of the car before you take it apart and before you remove stuff so you remember how it's hooked up. If you're unsure about something I'd be more than happy to PM you my cell number and you can reach me on it at about any time and I could help you figure out where stuff goes from description or you could email me pictures of it.
 
Yeah I would have to agree with Jared. I wouldnt pay someone 2500 to swap a head gasket. Is your garage heated?? If you can wait till spring Id be willing to lend a hand. I have tools to fix tools.
 
Well you guys make it sound easy, I have a general knowledge of a motor and have the tta supp. service manual but it must be more complicated that turning wrenches lefty lucy righty tighty. I really don't know what to do now. I do have all winter to do what ever to my car and I would like to do it myself. But I really really don't wanna get in over my head (no pun intended) and have to get someone to fix my mistakes. Or even worse, replace head gaskets and have something else go wrong with the motor??

At the same time I am thinking I have all winter to take my time and do it right. I think I am gonna google "head gasket replacement" and see what comes up. Maybe just read up on the general concept. Or maybe email John Pearcy @Jperformance. ???

I am in Edmontn and have a very profesional 3 car shop at my house. I build custom race engines (specializing in Pontiacs), race tranny's etc... I have all machine work done at ProStock, Randy the owner can vouch for my abilities. If you are doing a head gasket then you really should take the time and rebuild the heads. Under boost, valvue guides are stripped of oil. There is a new type of commetic gasket that I use on my 455, makes 830HP on nitros, and I am confident will handle the 25lb boost I am planning on another Pontiac for myself to make 1300hp on pump gas. I will have to see if they make it for the V6. Call me, I can replace the gasket, have the heads rebuilt, and do port work from mild to wild. 499-7926...
 
I am doing a complete rebuild of my motor. Do you think you could do that?? Ya cometic is the way to go I think. I wanna put an eagle crank shaft in, daimond forged pistons, a few other goodies. Let me know what you think. Jarred.
 
Call me 499-7926. I can do a complete blueprinted assebly if you wish. If you wish to make big I know two guys with GN's one runs 11's and the other 10's. Only issue is that my garage is currently full with my TA and 2 show car restorations I am working on. I am sure something can be worked out.
