It now has 140k on it but really seems to fall on its face up top. One time when it was cooler in the morning and the car still cool it ran strong had it up to 140mph. My question is what rpm does you cars shift at??? mine is shifting at 4000 and i feel it should be more. On my scanmaster 2.1 the tps is set to .44 idle but only see 4.2 at WOT??? why is it shifting so low?? and not pulling hard up top.
Thanks

you have had it for 3 days and done 140? ive had mine for 7 weeks and never went more than 90 lol :D

I would suggest maybe a new turbo tweak chip, i hear they are the best

You bought Johnboy's ehh? I regret not moving on that!

Ok, so your TPS might be a little high on the top but I think 4.2 is the lowest of the OK. Might want to try and get it to 4.5 or so but I'm not convinced that is what is killing you up top. I know out of my two GNs I've had they both took a dump at the top end when I bought them and with changing plugs, wires and the fuel filter they both got way better. I'd start there but that is not definitely it. Could be the coilpack, or fuel. Does it have a hotwired fuel pump? Stock fuel pump? Gotta go with an upgraded hotwired fuel pump and new injectors if they are stock.

As for shifting at 4,000, yeah, you should be 5,000-5,500. You can try to adjust this through the TV cable, that can definitely cause this. I found my second GN had a KCF trans and not a BRF trans, that stunk. Maybe Jack can verify that it is the correct trans, then you'd probably know you are just in for a TV cable adjustment.

Where in PA are you? Maybe we can get a cruise together, I'm in Sussex, north Jersey.

Enjoy it!

Don't fool with the TV cable until you know quite a bit about these cars. One run with it misadjusted willl smoke the clutches..

Start reading up and you will find these cars are easy to learn, yet finicky. Read. Read. Read. That is the best thing you can do right now!

Btw, I've had my TTA 6 years and haven't had it over 125. DontKnow:

im from the reading area. Not sure about the trans but i def. thought it should be shifting higher. Im am working my A$$ off and saving my money right now and over winter i think i am gonna turn this into one nasty tta. As of now i have about 7000 that im ready to dump into it and by winter it should be double. I will def. look into the trans. It does have a tt chip in it.

Holy crap, I can't imagine how fast it would be if you drop $14k into it!

I know im thinking built motor, turbo......... you know everything else need to go fast.

I really want to get it running good for the rest of this summer. Where is the best place to by parts for these cars? do most buick parts work?

Thanks

I gotta say it, but I pegged the speedo the first week. 17 yrs old with 2 chicks and the t-tops out. We were wild back in the 80's:cowboy:

and always ask before you buy...we are all willing to help and most have probably blown money on worthless mods

Like a volt booster...but hell, I had an account with Poston and wanted to close out and I had that much to spend. Live and learn.

ok guys i drove the car to work today and still only getting 4200 max. sooooo i turned my scanmaster to the rpm gauge and it showed it going up to around 5200 do you think my car tack is that far off????

And if so why does the car feel soo weak up top? They heads do have 140k on them

Hmm - what's your boost pressure at 4,200 rpm?

Trust the scanmaster.

And weak valve springs maybe? replace those and then you can wipe the cam in about 500 miles.

Well the last thing I would do is throw parts at it. I'd get to know and understand how these cars run,how to diagnose and repair, learn about the sensor(s) the ECM,the wastegate, the TV cable etc. Fix the problems you have now, one at a time.

After awhile you'll have read about what works for others and what will work for you.

I have wasted hundreds of dollars putting the cart before the horse, and the tempation is strong to do so.

Read, read and read some more here and over at TB.com. Talk to vendors on the phone, they always have great advice. And I have not dealt with one yet that has ripped me off or lied to me.

It's easy to give advice on a forum, but the wild card is knowing everybodys mechnaical skill level and making assumptions about that.
