This is whats been going on in my life lately and probably explains why I havent driven any of my cars much this season.

Posting a few pictures of the new building. This has all been done this week. Hopefully by next week the floor will be poured and the garage doors installed. Heres a few details:

32 X 56 with 2 16 foot doors and a man door.
10 ft side walls but w/scissor trusses, so ceiling ht is increased.
Radiant floor heating.
About 1/3 of the garage will have a dividing wall that will house a restroom, tool area and a small "car enthuisiast office" (like a man cave)lol

In late March, hubby and I started to tear down the old livestock barn ourselves, piece by piece. That was a challenge. Then 4 huge trees had to be removed.

I'll update the thread as things progress. We will be doing the inside finishing ourselves, so hoping to get it all wrapped up before the snow flies. Its going to be great having all the cars in there together.:)

love the car enthuisiast office!! I need to put one of those in my garage. I don't have a bathroom either!! Oh man can't wait for more pics!!! I guess this means no more pods for your tta :)

Thanks. We have needed one for quite a while. Decided after the first of the year to go for it. Put a lot of time and thought into the design, type of construction, etc. We will be getting a couple lifts eventually, and that went into the design also.

Thanks. Yes, the framing crew was Amish, the contractor has different crews for different stages of the build. Gotta give those Amish guys credit. They framed and put the metal on that building in 3 days. Plus it was 95 degrees every day. They were hard workers. Very satisfied with the progress and quality.
 
I thought I spotted a familiar hair cut. Around here we love the dutchies!

That is money very well spent for a caraholic! You'll wonder how you got by without one, specially as you get older and hate to crawl under things on your back :) Ask me how I know... Watch the auction sales and the for sale ads, lots of shops that move, consolidate, or liquidate to close business sell lifts all the time at dirt cheap prices. You'll need to be sure the concrete where you are going to mount it has the correct thickness and psi rating unless you are planning to get a 4-post lift as opposed to a 2-post.

I have found some 4-post 9lb NEW INSTALLED for $2400, not sure of the size garage yet but i'm thinking 28'x28'-12' wall 4000psi monolith pour maybe pre-fab steel as that seem's to be the most bang for the buck as far as size goes but then i'm stuck putting it in the back yard, anything attached will be a good deal more $....:rolleyes:

Plans are to get a 4 post first and then possibly a 2 post or another 4 post. The building plans have an allotted area for the 2 post, the radiant heat tubes will not be affected. Like I said, we have been tweaking this building for about 3 months. Minimum concrete is 4", but may do 5", gotta see the price difference.

I have been researching lifts for about a week. WAY too many choices. But I have learned that most are made in China (even Bendpak has Chinese components now). Most are similar in design and price. Some are certified, some arent. Choice of 110V or 220V. lift height and length are factors. I found a place that is about an hr from here, they are called Backyard Buddy lifts, 100% made in the USA, but of course the price reflects that. Leaning toward Direct Lift, but still have a lot of homework to do.
 
4" concrete 4000psi with fiber should be fine , just make sure you don't get a hot load and with that size building time the truck's right and you won't end up with a cold joint in this heat.
 
Wow ... if I could only build something that size on this side of the pond (well here in the UK that is) ... I think not :-( that is twice the size compared to the avarage house in this country ... hmmm might have to move back to Sweden and build something similar over there ..

Keep posting photos of the progress ... maybe one day I get to build a proper sized garage / workshop and then get a couple of more fun cars to play with :-)

This is the lift I am getting once I find the money. Four Post Lifts
 The are certified and very well built, I also think certification makes them lift almost twice there rating in order to be certified.

The Direct Lift you are mentioning is the one I am leaning toward. You get the drip trays, casters and jack tray with it, unlike Bendpak.
A few places that distribute them have free shipping if you can pick it up at the truck terminal. Seems to be a lot of places that carry lifts in general are out of Indiana.

Certification is a very important factor in my selection. Safety first!!

Did they happen to say how much the concrete per yard is? (truck only, not poured)

No, they did not. Was quoted the price for the job, but in the mean time have done a few "upgrades" a long the way. Gonna go with 5" concrete instead of 4". From past expereinces, have learned to not cheap out, because in my case, always comes back to bite me in the a--.

Thank you. I will be posting more pictures when more work is done. I agree, you can never be too informed-there is ALWAYS something to learn.

That is almost 1800sq ft 1" can make a big diff. in price and it's not nessary, you can either form pier's or just form it deeper where you will have a lift, expansion joint's (done right) and correct sub- grade (level) is the key here. If you can keep the concrete truck's off your sub-grade and wire when it's poured you will have a nice level and strong slab that will last forever, more so if you use 4000psi.... and the expansion joint's are done correctly
 
Very nice building going up there kymme !!!!! I myself have the two things you are investigating,radiant floor heat and lifts,have one of each,4 post,2 post and a portable mid rise .

4 post is a Prokar (chinese,but works fine)
2 post is a 9k lb. Bendpak (real nice quality)
midrise is a Revolution (real nice quality)

I made dam sure to layout where the 2 post was to be sitting,and routed the floor heat tubing around my areas where to be drilling.
The radiant floor heat is the cats azz !!!!!! I made my slab 6'' thick for the effect of retaing more heat for longer periods of time between when it would be calling for heat.Where my 2 post lift columns are sitting,I dug down extra to around 9'' thick just for some added security.

After all my research on lifts,and I did alot,Bendpak,yes,is made overseas,but in their own facility,and thats all they produce.The columns are what is made there.The cylinders,chain,hydraulic pump and motor are made in USA.
The same holds true for the Revolution,it is Rotarys offshore facilty to compete,but again under their own strict quality contro; environment,and thats all they make there is the Revolution brand.
The Prokar is the full blown chinese lift that is made in the same factorys as most of the others you will find,just diff colors and names but the same lifts.I beleive Direct,Eagle,Prokar,Classic,etc are all exactly the same lifts,just renamed.You will see they all have the same exact dimensions,and structures if you look closely.If used smartly,kept in adjustment(locks,cables,fluid,etc)it will be fine.
Don't be sucked in by BYB scare tactics about the chinese lifts colapsing,not that theirs is bad,cause its not,its a great lift.Don't tell me how bad everyone elses product is,just tell me how good yours is !!!!!!!
